Chapter Twenty Seven
"This is a lovely housewarming party! Sad that we weren't exactly invited..."
Facing us was a small trio of wolves, obviously not belonging to any pack by their scent and aura that wafted through the atmosphere like a pungent odor, they seemed like outcasts, angry and dark.
Little Rhein stood in between them, a gag wrapping around the circumference of his head and had his hands and feet bound together with a weird silvery cloth material.
"Correct, you're a smart wolf ain't ya?" the girl with maroon hair spoke up, staring straight at me as she tightened her grip on Rhein's neck, where she kept him from struggling too much. I glared at her but she just stared back, with a creepy chilled look.
"We are indeed outcasts. You might have heard of us before, we were once part of the Grand Wolf Council, anyway."
I stiffened, the two other wolves by her side were a female wolf and a male one. The other female was taller, decked out in black leather, with her blonde hair pulled up into a messily done ponytail. The male was just as tall as the blonde wolf, with some muscle and an ugly scar running down the length of his arm.
"Leave the kid alone, he hasn't done anything wrong." I held out my hands, trying to appear less threatening to the intruders.
Rhein squirmed, a whine building up behind the gag. "Let him go, Blue. He's just a little shiftling" the tall blonde wolf spoke, her voice rough but with a warmer tone at the mention of Rhein.
Blue, the marooned haired wolf, released Rhein, shoving him roughly towards Kyler who caught him and reached for the silver cloth to free him but instead jumped back and hissed, like he got shocked.
"That's silver woven into cloth, sorry. Kayla, if you would," Blue spoke and Kayla, the blonde wolf, stepped forward and untied the cloths. I noted her black leather gloves, worn out and pretty badly scratched up for something so tough like leather.
"Who are you and how did you get in?" Dalton snarled, his protective Alpha nature coming into play, just a little.
"Mere vampire boundaries are not enough to hold off wolves, so distant from the rule of the supernatural... and getting the kid to open the door was a piece of cherry pie." Kayla smiled grimly.
"I'll distract her, you two-" Dalton was sending a hurried message over to me when Blue shook her head, "We are not a threat, only against the Grand Wolf Council, you are innocent civilians and we won't harm you. But be warned, if you try to run... well you won't get that far, anyway."
"Come sit, we have much to discuss," and with that, Blue and her two misfits invited themselves into the living room, taking a seat on the large couch that was sat in the middle of the room.
-
I was fascinated. These wolves had a story to tell and a grudge to hold, against the Grand Wolf Council. And which my mate and I weren't exactly on the best of terms with at the moment.
Blue was their leader, she was the youngest but toughest. With good judgement and decision-making, she practically demanded respect when she walked into the room. Blue also had the power to manipulate minds. Mind control and mind reading were skills she specialized in.
Next came Kayla and Mark. Both of them we natural born followers and didn't have much to add to Blue's story, even though I could sense their undying rage under all that silence.
Kayla was a tracker with her sense of smell forcefully taken away by Izaiah and his broken band of wolves. She had a mate and kids, whom she had so strongly refused to talk about but at the mention of them, her aura grew dark and sad. I could only imagine what had happened to them.
Mark was just an introvert by nature. He was calm and deadly, having a job in the Grand Council as one of their assassins. He shared a little about his life, how he was picked up from a run down orphanage by the Grand Wolf Council and eventually ended up being tortured by his very own saviors. He was also seemingly mateless, from what I scented and instantly grew silent when the question was asked quite politely.
Dalton and I had offered them some chips and drinks and allowed them to clean up in the toilets while Rhein cowered at my side, still kind of traumatized. We had informed Vin and Roman and they were to return soon.
Both seemed a little concerned over some rogues that managed to mind control a little boy into letting them into the house. I mean, I would be too.
"This Grand Wolf Council... it's too far gone... to corrupt. We want to tear down the very foundation they built up for the world of weres and start anew. A new system where no one would have to live in fear of being hunted down just because they have a gift." Blue spoke quietly as she nibbled on the suspicious pizza that had been sitting at the bottom of Roman's fridge for goddess knows how long.
"So what? Are you insinuating that we launch a suicide attack against them to try and remove them none too nicely from this world?" I jokingly mentioned and got a few serious gazes from the new guests.
"Wo-ah. Wait a minute. Let's just stop here bro," I spoke quickly. Blue shrugged, placing the pizza down as she sat forward and folded her hands over her lap. "There seems to be no alternative that I know of. For someone who has been in the Council ever since she was a little pup... it gives you lots of time to contemplate lots of matters and look for loopholes or weak links in their party. Unfortunately, there seems to be none."
We sat in uncomfortable silence, taking in the whole hoard of bad news until it was broken by Mark, who leaned into his small leader and whispered something I was unable to catch.
"... Well that is, until now," Blue trailed off as her sharp gaze fixated on me creepily. "You have a little something special about your bloodline... something special that just might be the link we were looking for all along."
