Chapter Seven

Unknown POV

"We picked up his scent. Hard but obtainable nonetheless."

"That's good. That's very good..." I studied the crumpled up picture of him before a bout of anger surged through me and I threw it onto the floor.

"The council will be notified at your will."

I smiled, "No, I'll deal with him personally."

We've got you now Kane.

Kane's POV

Day I-have-absolutely-no-clue of homeless vagabond life. So exciting.

My stomach protested with hunger and I winced. Roadkill for days doesn't really agree with me. I had to get some real food sooner or later. Maybe a deer or two. Or a burger.

Since there was no way I would be straying out of the comfort of the woods anytime soon, I settled for the fresh red meat.

It posed some threats too. There was that risk of getting found while my senses were busy tracking the animal. Why didn't they provide delivery for fugitives?

I curled into myself once more and stretched back out, pushing myeslf to my feet- or more like my paws. Hunting time.

-

These woods were depressingly empty. All I could find were some voles and a shrew. Talk about sad. They were a quick snack and by the time I was done hunting, I was actually even more famished than before.

I collapsed onto the forest floor, frustrated.

"Hey kid," my wolf barked and I rolled my eyes. "I'm twenty-five, wolf. Not exactly a boy let alone kid," I snapped mentally. My wolf went silent for a minute before continuing, "Hey kid, perk up your ears. A deaf wolf could hear paw steps from a mile away."

I listened. True enough, I heard a set of paws thudding on the ground. From really far away. Again it was just my enhanced Alpha senses. "They won't be able to catch me, relax."

My wolf fell silent once more. Even when I tried to draw him out, he remained quiet. A rare occurance.

I stood up, shaking the dead leaves and dirt from my black coat.

"I wonder how close am I to their base..." I pondered over this for a while before the air was knocked out of me and I lay stunned back on the floor.

At once I snapped into the defensive mode that I was used to. Growling, used my sheer size to my advantage, throwing the attacker of me.

Russet coloured wolf. Angry yellow eyes. Reeked of Silver Range.

He came at me once more and pounced on him, dodging his snapping jaws and catching him by the his neck. My hind legs batted at his flank and I knocked him over, teeth still sink into his neck.

The wolf whimpered beneath me. I could feel him giving up. "That's it... turn back into human," I grunted and sure enough, he did. Falling unconscious as he did. Little children.

I let go of the limp body, taking in his human form. Soon the rest of his patrol would be coming. This was going downhill really rapidly.

I had to run.

I tried taking a step away from the crime scene but everything turned sluggish. Bright colours flashed in patches in my sight and the world tilted sideways.

Well hell.

The last thing I remembered was smelling the stink of iron, piercing the air like a dagger as I blacked out.
