Chapter Twenty Eight
Dalton's POV
I furrowed my brows as everyone in the room stared at me. Talk about uncomfortable. Kyler ran his hand along my arm, sensing my discomfort and trying to lessen that.
"You mean my bloodline of wolves actually has something to do with the way the council is run?"
I racked my brains, bringing up the conversation Kyler's Dad and I had a while back while I was practically their 'prisoner'. He had said something about overthrowing the Grand Wolf Council if I were up to it and also something about a James.
Well I knew no frickin' James so there's that. Maybe he dead too.
"What am I capable of?" I questioned and watched as Blue shifted in her seat.
"Well a long time back, when we were little pups under the care of the council in which we underwent training to become potential members, there was a big hoo-hah about some kind of attack and suspicions about certain survivors... it was when Isarel gave up his position as the head of the council to his then fifteen year old son, Izaiah."
Kyler frowned next to me and a short clip of his father snarling at some dude who closely resembled the husband of that one Kardashian played through our bond.
"Izaiah dropped the topic of the hush-hush attack, which later we used as a case study in the final year of class... it was a search and kill mission, to destroy a possible 'King' of wolves, the Royal Line. There was a short passage on a heir who was rumored to be dead but it seems like it was all false claims... because there's you, in flesh right before us."
"No there has been a mistake. You see, I was told of my descendants before and the only uncertain survivor was a kid named James Knight. In case you've missed out on introductions about a few hours ago, my name's Dalton Kane."
This sent the entire room into an intense silence. A silence so loud that it was like walking into a morgue with Beats by Dr. Dre headphones on.
"Has your name always been Dalton Kane?" Kayla asked slowly.
I didn't have an answer for that.
"There's a way to find out. A way to dig up memories so deeply buried that it was like they never happened. It's a skill that landed me in the council in the first place," Blue spoke up, face dark as if the thought of her gift made her sick.
Kyler grabbed my hand and squeezed it tight, "I say we do it, at the moment we have no solid leads so what do we have to lose?"
I nodded, kind of doubtful about what Blue's freaky telepathic skill could do to a guy.
"It may stir up feelings that yoh experienced once and never want to experience it again, I mean if you actually were James Knight. I need your full consent to this invasion of privacy by massive means. Do you allow me to walk your mind?" Blue looked straight at me and I nodded, more determined.
"Great, now I need you to just relax, close your eyes and try to clear your mind."
I shut my eyes and instantly felt the anxiety bubble up within me. That was gone the minute a soft hand brushed by the side of my face and my wolf submitted completely to our mate's touch.
Blue's smaller hand gripped both of mine as I felt a kind of weird tingly sensation spread through my body. It must be her gift working.
"Don't be afraid now, it's just a memory."
-
Bright sunlight. The sound of children and I was jostled in softness that surrounded me.
It was weird, I felt a lot more helpless and my limbs were unable to function properly. It was as if I was there without any control over my body or mind.
I sat up, blinking and the world seemed so big. I mean the table next to me towered over my small body and I was taken about as a shrill cry rang out of my mouth.
Was this me as an infant?
All of a sudden, a beautiful strikingly familiar face loomed over me and two hands reached down and lifted me up. The laughing around me ceased as the lady before me started to talk.
Something about the atmosphere there screamed bliss. There was a distant sound of the woods, bird and all. Murmurs of people.
The infant me then closed my eyes.
Gosh darn it! What are you doing! Open your eyes this is your deceased family! You have to treasure the time spent with them!
As hard as I fought with myself, all I had was my sense of hearing which sounded really muffled. Babies had horrible hearing. Ew.
I felt myself being rocked back and forth in a warm embrace when suddenly the entire atmosphere took a plunge for the worse.
Howling, lots of it. Ferocious snarling and screams.
"Rose! Get out of here! Take our son with you!" When I reopened my eyes I was looking up at a handsome man, with eerie similarities I shared in the modern time. He glanced down at me and I was met with overpowering love from his eyes, which were a color I couldn't bring myself to describe.
"Son, this will probably be the last time I'll ever see you. Be a good little wolf and stay quiet for your mom and yourself, got it? You're going to grow up to be an amazing wolf and do amazing things for this world, I know this... And James, I love you."
