Chapter Twenty Six

Kyler's POV

It has been a good two weeks of living with the vampires and so far the Grand Wolf Council has been suspiciously inactive.

This led Roman to be convinced that the "huge war waged between two species of supernatural" was not going to happen anytime soon.

And here we were, sending off Roman and his none-too-lovely husband, Vin, on their small two-person vacation. No doubt in mind what they planned to do.

Roman had left us with a private bank account with a million dollars, maybe even more, his house and his son. This was most definitely parenting of the highest standard.

Indeed, leave your child with the two most wanted wolves at the moment.

"What a great idea that would be!" said no one ever.

"Daddy!" Rhein squeaked from where he was situated on Dalton's shoulders. "We'll be back in a day or so, don't start any wars ha ha." I rolled my eyes at Roman's stupid comment.

Was he foreshadowing something? Hopefully not. That would suck balls.

"Be a good boy now, Rhein. If I hear anything about you..." Vin threatened playfully as she squished his son's cheeks before stepping back and grabbing his handbag.

Man-purse, he and Roman had insisted. I figured I would let that slide, don't want to risk pissing off any bloodsucker that could rock a man-purse.

"Bye!!!" Roman looked more than happy at his freedom and then they were gone, in ten seconds flat.

I shut the door and turned to Dalton and kid, "well, what do you want to do?" I looked to my mate who was struggling to peel Rhein off him. "Hide and seek! Please!" Rhein pouted cutely as he hit Dalton repeatedly on the head with his little bittle hands.

I smiled at him and reached up, bringing him back down onto the ground. "Alright, but no hiding outside the house- and I mean it, Rhein." Dalton looked the child seriously in the eye and Rhein nodded his head bashfully.

"Right! Who wants to be the first to seek!"

With that Rhein was gone, leaving Dalton and I alone in the living room. "Well... good luck seeking!" and then he took off as well.

My mate had the mentality of a child, that was reassuring.

Sighing, I shut my eyes and counted all the way to seven before skipping to thirty with the "Ready or not! Here I come!"

Dalton's POV

I was sitting on the bed that Kyler and I currently shared, flipping through a couple of documents from Roman's collection of magical data and stuff.

So much for finding a good hiding spot.

Roman's territory was blocked by an interspecies treaty, between the Wolf Council itself and high ranking vampire he was. If one were to trespass the vampires would have the right to attack whoever set foot on their turf.

I also found the document signed between Kyler's Dad and Roman. Being neighbors, they had to have some kind of peace between them.

A shift in the sudden atmosphere of the place. Sitting up, I sniffed the air for any traces of some kind of ambush or whatnot.

Something was not right.

I burst out of the room to come face to face with my mate. "Found you!" he shouted but sensed the change in mood and went all serious.

"Where's Rhein?" I demanded and winced internally, not meaning to sound too harsh on my own mate.

"I... don't know. I haven't managed to find him yet."

It was eerily quiet for a while before a piercing scream rang through the air without a doubt belonging to a young child.

"Fuck."
