Chapter Twenty Two
Kyler's POV
Not only was I half dead physically but now I was confused.
That confusion however, lasted for a short while before Dalton hissed, "Vampire!"
I glanced curiously at the relatively young man who stood a distance away from us.
He was lithe, not really a buffed up protein sack and his skin was as white as, well, snow.
He had the bluest eyes ever that studied me up and down and his hair was a messy quiff of black on the top of his head.
"Come on, don't want the Great Dog Council after your asses don't you?" the vampire retorted, crossing his arms and looking bored.
My ears flattened against my head as I waited for Dalton's decision.
Wait! I was Alpha! I didn't listen to no good looking, delicious, way more experienced Alpha wolf. Even if he was my mate.
I trotted forward, feeling the air thick with Dalton's suspicion and joined the vampire on the other side of our borders.
"Hey Red Eyes, get your furry butt over here and let's go. My name's Vin by the way." I glanced at the partly sociable vampire and Dalton begrudgingly shuffled over to the wrong side of the border.
"Try to keep up," was all Vin said before he was moving like a blur through the forest.
My muscles ached with the thought of more unnecessary running but bounded after him anyway.
Don't get me wrong, I was all about exercising and working out, but there was running for your life and your mate's life which in my defense, required more emotional energy rather than physical and with that comes exhausted Kyler.
Even though we were barely mates, I felt a love blossoming for him, very slowly like a caterpillar entering a the cocoon stage.
This pleased both me and my wolf.
I was lost in thought when we stopped outside a decent sized cabin constructed out of dark wood.
"Welcome to my humble abode!" Vin announced and I picked up pride and protectiveness from his very faint aura.
Who knew vampires had feelings?
I was taken aback when small child kind of just slammed the front door wide open and leapt into Vin's awaiting arms.
The guy looked fifteen and he has a son? No way.
Followed by the kid came another vampire. This time it was close to Dalton's height, obviously taller than me and it had visible muscle mass and a pair of green eyes.
He resembled some kind of exotic underwear model, a thought that made Dalton's fur stand on the end in annoyance, with the defined jawline and what looked to be silky brown hair all slicked back fashionably.
"Ahem. If you could stop gawking at my husband that would be really nice," Vin's voice interrupted my train of though and I snapped my gaze away from the big vampire and down to the floor.
"Wolfie!" the child squealed, jumping from his father's arms and barreled straight into me.
The kid hung onto my fur, stroking me and running his tiny hands through my thick blonde fur.
"Rhein, get off our guests and invite them in," the taller vampire commanded and his son obediently followed.
"Please do come in after assuming your human forms. Here are some pants and you can change out here while we prepare food for you. Surely after the long trek from your pack house to here you must be famished?"
