I did not see that one coming

I've been wondering this forest for the last 45 minutes, where the hell is Ruby? I push through the branches of some low branches and still see nothing. I head back to the trail where the truck is to see if Ruby went back. I turn back and see something dangling from a tree. I follow it with my eyes upward and see ruby's butt lowering down from a branch, her entire body naked. she gets lower to the ground and I look away.

"umm hey, ruby.... I just wanted to check on you. check that you are okay...."

She runs away.

What just happend? she goes away to pee and goes completely naked to do that? I watch her run away and she goes behind a tree. within a minute she comes out again but this time fully clothed. I've never seen a person look so calm... its like she forgot that it happened.

"Hey Ryan, when did you get here?"

Oh. didn't she see me? didn't she hear me?

"I... I was here when you were ummm getting down from the tree. why were you... why were you in the tree? I don't mean to pry man. but seriously."

"I was in a tree? oh, my god. I WAS IN A TREE?" she says panicked and confused.

" you were nude in a tree hon."

She looks at me in shock and mumbles to herself. she looks away and her cheeks turn red. I walk toward her and go for a serious hug and grip her tight. when I let go she walks toward the car very quickly making sure she can get away. I sigh and walk after her giving her space so she can be by herself. She turns around quickly and gives me a nasty look. I stop in shock... what the hell? I'm not the one that disappeared for almost an hour? she needs to calm down. I need to breathe. the last thing I need is to lose my temper.

"What? I'm giving you space to cool down. There is no need for you to give me nasty looks."

"why did you follow me!" she shouts.

"You were gone for such a long time! I got worried! excuse me for being concerned!"

I get closer to her and she storms off again. I chase after her. I catch up with her and grab her arm tightly.

"No enough! all this fucking running away is getting old not to mention repetitive and annoying. What the hell was that in the tree. Explain or I swear to god I'm going to leave you, and your naked ass here to die."

Ruby huffs in aggression. This bitch. I tried to be nice to her but I'm sick of the secrets and mind games.

"Fine! Do you want to know what that was? That was me blacking out. I don't know what happens when black out like that. I get bits and pieces of my memory but I can never figure out what happens. All I know is that one minute my back hurts and the next thing I know is that I am butt naked and have to go find my clothes."

"So this happens all the time?"

"Well since I was around 9, yeah. When you came to my house and I saw you... well-" she sighs and hesitates.

"Wait? Were you sneaking inside? Does your family know about it?"

"Well I was about to climb back inside after my blackout, I was pretty far from home when I was stark naked in the middle of the street. It happens at random times and I have no control of it or what I do during the blackout. I was thinking of recording myself but whenever I try the video is gone... I really don't know what the hell happens."

She starts to walk towards the car and I walk behind her until we get to the car. when we get to the truck I open the door and get into the driver's seat. I wait for ruby to get the food and her purse. She gets in hesitantly but gets in and closes the door lightly. We buckle ourselves in and she pulls down her mirror to look at herself.

" Wow I look like shit." she laughs.

"Don't even joke. You look beautiful. considering how long we have been out here, you look like a model. Very Kendall Jenner like."

"Thanks, Ryan."

"It's ummm.. Sasha. my names not really Ryan."

"Oh, okay then." she looks out her window. I start the engine and drive onto the dirt road. Dirt roads remind me of this road trip I once took with Cara when I was younger. Her mom: before she met Avans mom, had taken us on a trip to her parent's house for a family get together. I don't remember anything except the drive there, it was so long and most of the trip was taken on back roads that weren't paved. It was the first trip I had been on without him mom since she died. the dust off the road flew up around the car enveloped it entirely in smoke. Rocks would fly up against the bottom and sides of the car making little tink noises as they bounced off the car.

" Sorry for how I treated you earlier. I just get frustrated when these blackouts happen. Maybe if I knew what happened during them I would be a little less on edge. I really wish I knew what happens during, and how the heck I end up getting in such strange places." She says looking at her feet

"It's okay ruby. I probably would have done the same thing, to be honest. I just wish you had told me about this before. I could have maybe helped you and have told you what happens during the blackouts."

I don't know what happens but I really really want to know. I don't know how I was unaware of any of this. We've been out here for days. 3 days and she hadn't blacked out? I wonder when it will happen again.

"I don't really know if I'm safe to be near when they happen. I'm starting to think there's a reason why I've never been caught before. Why nobody's ever stopped to help a little-naked girl in the middle of the street. How my parents have yet to ask why I go through clothing so quickly." playing with her slightly tangled red hair she turns her face back towards the window.

"Have you considered that you could be gifted?"
