Bey's POV
Hi! I'm Beyoncé. I'm 16, and I'm a mermaid. Oh wait! I wasn't supposed to tell you that!

But you can keep a secret, right?

Great!

Anyway, no one knows that us mermaids exist. We just live at in the ocean unknown to the world. And that's the way we like it.

Here in Merlandia, I'm a princess. My sister, Solange, is too. My mom, Celestine, and dad, Mathew, are the king and queen.

I also have magical powers over water. I can freeze water, move water, and boil water.

I can even start storms. And if add enough heat to things, I can burn things.

I'm pretty awesome.

Right now I'm going to meet my parents and sister at Mermaid Rock.

I swam through the water. I stopped to talk to some dolphins. There was some gossip I just needed to get in on.

I finally arrived at Mermaid Rock. I swam to the surface. My parents were sitting on the rock. My sister was in the water. I decided to stay in the water too.

"Hi baby girl," my parents greeted.

"Hi guys. What's up? Why'd you want to see me?," I asked.

My parents looked at each other and then back at me. My mother spoke up.

"Baby girl, you have to go away for a while," she finally said.

"What?! Why?!," I asked.

"The rogue mermaid, Melinda, has threatened to kidnap you," she explained.

"Why?," I asked still needing a better explanation.

"Because you are a very special mermaid. You are the Chosen Mermaid. That means that you are more powerful than any mermaid in the sea. Your grandmother was the Chosen Mermaid and her power was passed on to you after she passed away. Melinda would do anything to have your powers. She has threatened to kidnap you to steal your powers. We want to keep you safe, so we are sending you to land," she expounded.

"No!," my sister screamed.

She swam over to me and hugged me.

"She can't go! She's my sister," she continued.

"Solange is right. I can't go. I'll never make it on land," I told them.

"Honey, you are a strong, independent, young mermaid. You will have no problem living on land," my father told me.

"No! I can't leave you guys here! Melinda is going to come for you guys! She could kill you!," I yelled.

"We're willing to take that chance to protect you, darling," my father said.

"I'm not leaving you guys or my sister," I stated.

"You have no choice. You have to go," my mother told me.

My parents dived into the water. We had a family hug. We pulled apart.

"Now, take my moon ring. You can use it to give yourself legs and do other magic when you need to. And remember after you get your legs, if you touch water, you will sprout your tail again. Your legs will only come back when you're dry," my mother said as she took of her moon ring and placed it on my pointer finger.

Moon rings go on your pointer finger. I don't know why. They just do.

"Mother, I'm not skilled enough to get my moon ring yet. I don't know how to use it," I told her.
