There was no way he was staying here with them. After deciding I would stay, I swore to myself that I would keep them alive. After losing everyone one before, I knew how it felt, and I would do everything in my power to stop that from happening again.
The guys and I had decided that we would tie him up, and then source a car to drive him to somewhere far away from out little hold-up.
I had agreed to go with Mark in search for a car, whilst Ken, Cry and Wade stayed back watching Markus and boarding up the windows in the store.
There were small windows on the first story, and the second story wouldn't really be much trouble. We had decided that we should take the entire town, eventually. We would work our way up from the store, and the small building to the right. We would eventually fence the town and use it to our advantage. We could Zombie-proof everything we could, and finally try and feel, almost, safe, as we slept at night.
"Where are we going to find a car?" Mark asks me around five minutes away from the city.
I didn't really know, but there were bound to be cars in the city. And we could collect fuel from the tanks of others. We would also be looking for supplies to improve the hold-up. There was a hardware store not too far from the building that I had been 'captured' in earlier. I also think I recall a car yard, somewhere past there.
"There are bound to be cars in the city." I reply.
He nods his head and strolls along-side me.
"Hey Jack?" He asks after another two minutes or so.
"Yeah?" I reply.
"How did you manage to knock him out, with one punch, might I add?" He questions.
I didn't really know, I had never really thought about knocking him out, I just felt so angry when he touched Mark. Like I was going to get hurt myself, I felt like if Mark got hurt, I would be the one to suffer, because I couldn't watch him be in pain. Even though I was willing to leave him alone in that over-run town to die... But after getting his side of the situation, I forgave him. In actual fact it wasn't his fault. Sheba died because she was trying to protect me, and I guess, Mark died because in a weird way, he was trying to protect me as well. Maybe staying with them wasn't such a good idea after all.
Does that make sense, probably not... Ahh well.
"I dunno," I answer after a moment of thinking, "I was just mad, and I swung."
"Well, remind me not to get you angry." He chuckled, then paused frowning a little, "Well... Again."
We walk around the final bend in the road before it was time to go up though the forest. We would climb the tree up and into the building. I would lead the way once again from there. Hopefully there are no setbacks during this operation and we can get back to the others as soon as possible.
Once I had reached the base of the tree that would act as our ladder, I took a firm grip on the bark and pulled to check its sturdiness. I was about to bring myself up when I thought of Mark. I looked beside me and saw him looking at the ground, like he was almost embraced about something.
"You alright Mark?" I asked after catching him lost in thought.
His head shot back up and he looked at me.
"Ahh well, actually no. I can't really climb..." He trailed off.
"Oh." I reply.
How were we going to get in there now? Every other entry was either too risky, or completely impossible. Maybe I could give Mark a quick lesson.
