When are you free?

The text brought a smile to my face, and I probably stared at it for a good ten minutes before answering, telling Shawn that I was free this afternoon. I was actually free all day, but I don't want to make it seem like I do literally nothing everyday.

Great, I'll pick u up @ 1 :)

My heart thunders, and I use everything in my power to reply without all caps.

And where exactly might we be going?

Shawn doesn't answer instantly, so I find myself getting out of bed and looking for clothes, since it was currently eleven.

Surprise. Oh, bring your swimsuit, ur gonna get wet ;)

And now, ladies and gentlemen, I find it a miracle I didn't just drop dead on my floor.

Shawn Mendes was screwing with my emotions, and I'm not sure I completely hated it.

Today was pretty hot, and so I look for my bikini, then putting it on under a plain white shirt and some shorts. I mess with my hairstyle for a while until I come to a conclusion to put it in a high ponytail and leave it be. As I walk out of my room I check the time, noticing I had about five minutes or so until Shawn came to pick me up.

At that moment, the doorbell rings, and I rush over to the door, opening it with a smile on my face.

"Hey Sh- Adam?" I ask, surprised. He stood in front of the door with a slight smile on his face, and I wait for him to begin speaking so he can explain why exactly he was at my house when Shawn would be here any minute.

"Hey, uh, well I was just wondering if, um, well if you were free today? There's a new place in town that serves smoothies so I thought, y'know, if you were free then maybe we could go over there and check it out? If you're not that's totally fine, I was just wondering because I thought it would be fun to do. Go to the smoothie place, that is." Adam rambles, and I find myself standing still absolutely silent for a matter of moments before my mouth finally opens, and I answer him.

"Oh, Adam, I'm actually kind of busy right now, but maybe another time, if you're okay with that? Did you ask Amber if she could go?"

"Uh, no, just you. Never mind though, it's fine. I bet their smoothies aren't that good anyways." He says, and for some strange reason I feel extremely bad.

"I'm sorry, Adam. But I promise we'll reschedule." I tell him, extending my pinkie.

Our pinkies wrap and Adam gives me a slight smile. "Yeah. I'll see you later, Livie."

Adam turns around and walks away from my view, so I shut the door slowly.

"Wow. That was harsh. Like, extremely harsh. Way harsher than I ever imagined harsh would be. I mean, you got me feeling like I was the one who got rejected, and you weren't even speaking to me." I turn my head to face Nora, standing by the stairs with a frown on her face.

"It's not like that, Nora, me and Adam are friends." I say, and Nora shrugs.

"Are you sure? Because you guys seem a little more than friends to me."

"I'm sure, Nora." I reply, and she looks me dead in the eye before responding.

"But is he?"

Before I can answer her, Nora twists the doorknob and opens the door, shutting it behind her and leaving the house.

How dramatic.

When the clock hits 1:10, the doorbell rings again, and I open it to see Shawn standing there, with a slight smile on his face.

"Hey, sorry I'm late, there was traffic." He tells me, and I shrug, then putting a grin on my face.

"It's fine." I tell him, and shut the door
behind me. Instead of walking straight to his car, we stand infront of the door for a moment, staring into each other's eyes.

"You are so beautiful." Shawn's voice drops, almost in a whisper. I smirk at him and shrug.

"You're pretty cute yourself." I say, and Shawn leans closer until we're kissing. It lasts for a while until we break off, and I open my mouth to speak.

"So, are we going to mystery place or what?" I ask, and Shawn pecks my lips once more before smiling.

"Let's go."

We walk over to his car and I hop in, admiring the vehicle. Once he starts driving I begin to talk, so the car ride won't be extremely awkward and quiet.

"You have a nice car." I tell him, and he smiles, looking as if he was extremely proud of himself.

"Yeah, this car is kind of my favorite."

"Is something going on between you and this car that I don't know about? I feel like I should be concerned." I tell him jokingly, and he reaches for my hand with one hand, then holding it.

"Don't be, there's nothing going on between the Jeep and I." He tells me, and I raise an eyebrow.

"Really? Because you could have fooled me." I tell him, and all he can do is shrug.

"I mean, there may have been something before, a long while back, but it's all history now. Nothing anymore."

"But feelings don't fade, not completely. You don't just wake up one day and stop loving somebody." I reply, and as we reach a red light, Shawn looks at me in confusion.

"Was that a line from Buffy The Vampire Slayer?" He asks, and I look at him sheepishly.

"It might be." I answer, and he shakes his head.

We continue to talk, having a very good conversation for about an hour or so. Believe me when I say that it felt like ten minutes, Shawn was very good at conversing. Right when I finally look to see where we are, Shawn parks his car, smiling.

"Where exactly are we, Shawn?" I ask, and his smile only widens.

"Probably the best place I've found in New York."
