We didn't really have anytime to take the news in because then Ryan Waters ordered that we be taken down to 'Medical.' Johnny Lawrence took us through the winding halls that reminded me and everyone else of the Compound. We came to a large room full of beds (that looked very similar to the ones at the Compound) and people bustling around.
"I'm going to need help with these kids,"
Johnny Lawrence said. He still had the crate of files in his hands. "Take blood samples and fix up any injuries. I'm going to take a look at these files."Other people came up and took us all to separate beds. The woman who took me, Nurse Amy Reed, took out a syringe. Before she could turn around to face me, I flung the syringe out of her hand and ran towards the door. Johnny Lawrence came up and grabbed my arm. The nurse was still trying to figure out how the syringe flew out of her hand.
"We're not going to hurt you," said Johnny Lawrence. "We just need to take a blood sample. We're not putting anything in you."
I read his mind and found out he was telling the truth, but I didn't trust Amy Reed. 'You can have my blood if you take it. I don't trust Amy Reed.'
"Fine. Nurse Reed, I'll do this one." He led me back to the bed and pulled out a new syringe. I started to freak out but Johnny Lawrence gave me a smile and I calmed down a little.
But only a little.
In order to calm myself a little more, I looked at the others that made it out. They didn't seem all that freaked out, but I knew they were.
Johnny Lawrence pushed up the sleeve on my white jumpsuit and put the needle in the crook of my elbow. I winced at the prick and watched as my blood flowed into the syringe. Once Johnny Lawrence was satisfied with the amount of blood, he took the syringe out, put it one the table next to him, and put a weird sticky cloth where he put the needle in.
I looked at the weird object and poked at it."It's called a band-aid," informed Johnny Lawrence. "It covers injuries and helps catch any blood flowing out."
I nodded and asked, 'Why do you have those files? What's in them?'
"Don't know yet kiddo. I'll find out soon enough."
'What's a 'kiddo?''
"It's a nickname for young people."
''Nickname?''
"Goodness, you have a lot to learn. Just try and get some rest. You've had a long day."
I laid down on the bed and passed out as soon as my head hit the pillow.
I woke up a while later and heard Johnny Lawrence and Ryan Waters talking.
"...kids have been through a lot," said Ryan Waters. "They deserve to know about themselves."
"I agree," said Johnny Lawrence. "But do you think now is a good time? They just got out of years of torture and lost a majority of their people. Not to mention they hardly know anything about the real world. They don't even talk Ryan! They don't need another burden to carry."
"They deserve to know John."
"Fine. I'll tell them, just not now. They're resting."
Ryan Waters started to walk over to me and the rest of the kids, based off of his vibrations. I was tempted to ask him what we 'deserve to know,' but I just searched his mind.
The files Johnny Lawrence had, contained information on the experiments. Our birthdays, parents, where we were born, our names. We had names? We'd only ever had identification numbers. I tried to find out what my name was, but I couldn't find it on Ryan Waters's or Johnny Lawrence's minds. I was about to sit up and ask to see my file, but Ryan Waters were called to the 'Bridge' with Johnny Lawrence. They left and I fell back into a deep sleep.
I woke up to someone jumping on my bed. I opened my eyes to see H-90263 trying to dodge Nurse Amy Reed's arms. She was frantic, not wanting the food Nurse Amy Reed gave her. H-90263 grew tired after a good five minutes and let Nurse Amy Reed take her back to her bed.
I sat up and Johnny Lawrence came up to me and offered me food. I never realized how hungry I was until I saw the apple he was giving me. I took it slowly and ate quickly. I was going to ask him about the files, but the food distracted me and something told me not to.
We were enjoying our apples when Simon Norris came in, holding his hand.
"Hey doc, I could use some help," he said, holding out his hand which had a gash in it.
Johnny Lawrence led him to the bed next to mine and went to get some medical supplies. I stared at Simon Norris's hand. It looked painful. He saw me staring and said, "I've had worse. And it doesn't hurt that much."Until then, I had never noticed he had a weird sound to his voice. It sounded different than anyone else's.
While I was staring at Simon Norris's hand, B-87952 walked up to him and touched his injured hand. When she pulled her hand back, his injured hand was healed.
B-87952 went back to her bed and everyone looked astonished. Even Johnny Lawrence, who had come back looked like his eyes deceived him.
Simon Norris looked at his hand and back at B-87952 over and over again. He then looked at me, thinking I could explain what had happened, but I just shrugged my shoulders.
"Well Mr. Norris, it seems you're all patched up," Johnny Lawrence said slowly.Simon Norris nodded and left slowly.
Realization hit and I realized B-87952 had healing powers.
