I was taken back to the mountain side and chained. The guard took Mason and led him to the tent I came from. The others tried to ask me what had happened and if I still had my powers. I never answered though. My mind was still on the conversation Dr. Forman and I had.
"Why would you need a mutant army?" I had asked him.
"So when humans get themselves into a war with an alien species they stand a chance," he had said.
He gave me time to think over his offer. He said I would have plenty of time since he had to build the army from the kids who were leftover. Apparently, there were still about fifty to sixty kids back at the Compound, waiting to be made into an army.
I didn't have to think about his offer. There was no way I would be his general for his mutant army.
Mason came out about two hours later. He looked weak and we all knew his powers were gone. The guard chained him and left. About five minutes later, he came back with more guards and gave us food and water. We all took our meal and ate quietly.
We didn't know what to say. It seemed that whatever we could say would come out wrong.
To be honest, I don't know why we all were so attached to our powers. We didn't really want them in the first place.
I looked over at Mason. He was pale and it seemed that every slight movement hurt. He didn't have a cut on his forehead. I let my head fall. Dr. Forman didn't take out the device in Mason's head. Dr. Forman was keeping his promise. He was going to kill the others by frying their brains.
I stopped eating, my appetite no longer there.
I hoped Ryan and the others were close to finding us.
An hour later, another guard came and took Emilee.
She didn't put up a fight.
None of them did when their time came.
Each and everyone of them came back looking fragile and weak. All of them missing the cut on their heads.
My heart broke every time. I was supposed to protect them, but I failed.
I was only a matter of time before Dr. Forman ended it.
And when it all began.
