Rio Lane's parents get divorced when she was 6. After 2 years of custody cases, Rio lived with her mother for the next 8 years at Colorado. She comes back to her home town in the state of Texas and lives with her father.
Rio, now at the age of 16...
The birds tweet and sun rays shine through my window. My alarm goes off and I wake up yawning and stretching.
"Ouch. Stupid lamp."
I get up and change out of my pajamas into my school clothes.
"Rio, you better get down here already otherwise you'll miss out on breakfast!"
"Coming dad!" I grab my laptop and see that I missed 4 face timing conversations with someone.
Mom..
I send her a message saying
Mom I'm very sorry that I couldn't chat with you yesterday. I'll explain to you later after school during our conversation.
I put my laptop away and rush down stairs trying to gobble up my French toast and chug down the rest of my orange juice.
As soon as my dad slows down while we arrive at the student pick-up and drop off area, I rushed to get off and kiss my dad's cheek.
"Bye dad, see you at home after school."
"Whoa whoa whoa pumpkin! What's the rush? Why did you say home? Is Tyler dropping you off?" I nod and kiss his cheek again.
"Alright but be careful. You better arrive home in one piece! Have a great day at school honey!"
"Bye dad!" I speed walk inside trying to look for Tyler.
Where is he?
I walk to my locker and see Tyler waiting and searching for me. As soon as he turns his back on me, I sneak behind him and poke his waist making him jump a little.
"There you are my cute little river!" He lifts me by my waist practically getting everyone's attention.
"Tyler, everyone's looking at us."
"Good, just letting them know that you're mine now." He smiles and I wrap my arms his neck and kiss his lips.
When I turn around I see Tonya leaning by her locker, and as soon as i caught her eyes she walked away. I pushed myself off Tyler and followed Tonya.

As soon as I turn my corner, "Why are you following me Rio Lane? Didn't you get that I don't want anything to do with you anymore? Or do I have to knock your head to remember?" She clutches her fist.
"Tonya, don't hurt her. Rio come on let's head to class already."
"Hold on Tyler, Tonya why do you hate me? Why are you acting this way towards me? What did I do to you?"
She pop a her bubblegum and walks away. I follow her and touch her shoulder trying to make her turn around.
"Come on Tonya, reason with me. What did I do wr-"
"Do you really want to know why I hate you!?! I'll tell you why!! Kyle was my first love and my first boyfriend in grade school but he always had feelings for you! He dumped me a week a month later after you left to Colorado. You're the reason he left me. He never stopped loving you and now that you're with my brother it gets me even more pissed off because it seems like your only purpose in life is to make my life miserable!!!!"
She walks away with a red anger-tone face leaving me and Tyler speechless.
I try to come up with a word to say but nothing came out, but then I feel a hand on my shoulder.
"Let's go to class already Rio, it's getting late."
I nod and walk with him to class. I have my head straight forward as if I was a zombie. I didn't speak nor blink.
"Don't let her get to your head Rio, I'm sure she'll find her way out of it. She'll love you by the end of the school year."
I stop then he stops with me and lifts my head by my chin. "And what if she doesn't. Tyler I can't stand the thought of Tonya hating me while I'm with you. I didn't mean to do anything to Kyle and her relationship. Am I really here to ruin her life?"
He places his hands on my cheeks. "Of course not sweetie. You didn't do anything wrong. It's nobody's fault. Look things got complicated with Kyle and Tonya back in grade school but that was a long time ago. I don't know why she hasn't forgotten about it but she will one day and it will all go away."
I look deeply into his eyes. "How can you be so sure?"
He smiles and a sparkle appears his eyes for nearly a second. "I know my sister. She'll figure herself out."
I sigh. "Okay. Let's head to class already. It is getting late after all." I smile and hold his hand as we both walk to class.
