The next day dad woke up with me lying next to him. Of course I wasn't going to leave my dad alone in a hospital, besides I couldn't go back home alone.
The door and to my surprise it was Stacy with flowers and some food. "Hey Rio, I know you probably didn't get to eat much yesterday so I brought you some food."
I got up and gave her a tight hug. "Thank you so much. You are literally my lifesaver." She gives me a small smile and pats my back. "No problem. How's your dad doing?"
We both sit down while I explained to her about the heart attack. "The doctor believes it could be genetic so I might have a heart attack in the future as well."
"Oh Rio, I doubt that you would be able to get that heart attack. You actually might be the one to stop it all."
I looked up at her and smiled with the thought but there was still doubts. "Stacy, it has been in our family history. My grandfather got a heart attack while playing in a bingo tournament with my grandmother when I was five years old. My great grandfather, well..that was another story. It was actually funny but sad at the same time."
Stacy looked up at me with curiosity in her eyes. "Spill. I'm suddenly interested in this story telling."
I roll my eyes and continue. "Well from what my grandfather told my dad, it happened on their anniversary. My great grandmother was shopping for something 'special' for their anniversary."
Stacy interrupts me, "ohhhhh I know where this is going but go on."
I roll my eyes letting out a little chuckle. "Anyway, it was after their anniversary dinner when they got home and starting getting ready 'for bed'. My great grandmother had a sexy night gown on and then well her husband you know, in the heat of the moment."
"Let me guess they had. Wait do you want to say it together?"
I smack Stacy's arm. "Why would I want to say it with you, it's weird, besides we both know what they did, but while they were 'doing it' he got the heart attack. I'm guessing he had too much fun that night that it overwhelmed him."
We both laugh until my dad wakes up. "Hey you two."
I sprung up and gave him a tight but careful hug. "You finally woke up sleepy head. Are you feeling any better?"
He nods and sighs. "Rio, why didn't you go to the house and get something to eat or some sleep? Sleeping in the hospital is really uncomfortable you know."
"First of all, I can't drive because I have no license and car. Second I'm not going to leave you alone because it is entirely my fault that you're in this bed right now."
He grabs my hand and rubs against my knuckles. "Rio, don't you dare blame yourself for this. Me being in the hospital isn't your fault. I had a heart attack and it was eventually going to come soon in my life but I'm still alive. I wasn't overwhelmed with your mother being pregnant because she has a husband now and well you're going to be an older sister. You should think about what it would be like to have a younger brother or sister. You can lead them, be an example."
I sigh and rub the back of my neck. "Dad, how can you be so calm about this? You know deep inside, you still love mom. I'm just surprised that her pregnancy is keeping you calm, when you are actually burning with anger and hurt inside. I've heard your anger dad, especially when I called you telling you that I was mom's flower girl for her wedding with Todd."
In the corner of his eyes, tears begin to drop. "I know what you mean Rio, but the past is the past. We have to move on with our lives and accept that whatever happened in the past, was just a memory."
