Dreams, Please Don't Come True

Chapter 22

(Sonic's POV)

The dance was over and everyone was leaving. I held hands with Shadow as we made our way to his bike. I heard someone running up behind us, I turned in time to see Shadow get sucker punched in the face. He fell to the ground, only to swing his legs around, tripping the attacker. I couldn't make out a face since it was eleven at night, the street lights not helping much. Shadow got the attacker in a death grip, growling. I squinted my eyes and saw that it was Scourge. I groaned and pulled Shadow off.

"Just leave him alone. It's not like he can do anything. Let's just go Shadz." I pulled on Shadow's arm as he sighed. We let Scourge laying on the ground, him growling as he stood up. Shadow is stronger than him, and it's not like Scourge would kill someone.

Once home, my uncle forced Shadow to sleep downstairs for tonight. He sighed and changed into pjs, falling asleep right away. I smiled and went to sleep, after taking care of a few things. Let's hope the rest of the year go by quick.

The last week for Shadow went by smoothly. He hasn't gotten into fights and passed all his exams. He was going to do online college so he didn't have to move away and find a new job. At least he was staying with us.

Now we were waiting for Shadow's graduation ceremony to start. My friends were here, supporting Shadow and I. Even if Shadow didn't quite get along with others, he still was 'nice' enough to them. He still didn't quite like Amy. Even if she did move on from me, Shadow still thought she would try to win me back. It was going to be weird without Shadow next year, but I would be able to see him each night. Well when he's not working.

Sighing, I realized I might not see Shadow as often I wanted to. He said he was going to work full time to help my uncle with the bills. Then he was on his new laptop most of the day when I do get to see him. Frowning slightly, the ceremony started.

Hours had past and the ceremony ended, with Shadow being at the top of his class. The school gave him money for college, paying for almost everything he needed fo it. We all went to a small restaurant, celebrating Shadow passing high school. Shadow was actually smiling and happy as we celebrated.

We got home kinda of late, crashing as soon as we got home. I fell asleep cuddling with Shadow, my head resting against his chest, listening to his heart beat. I wish he never leaves me.

--Nightmare--

I was running towards the school, I think that what it was. I felt as if something bad was happening and I had to get there now.

It had to do with Shadow, I knew it had too. I forced myself to push forward and keep running. Finally I made it and I found Shadow and Scourge. Both of them were badly beaten up. I was so out of breath and weak, I fell to my knees, gasping for air. I just had to watch as they fought.

My voice was too weak to shout for them to stop. I watched as Shadow knock Scourge to the ground, only for him to pull something out of his pocket. I squinted my eyes, trying to make out the object. Scourge lunged towards him, Shadow's eyes widen. Scourge fist was in his stomach, smirking. He pulled his fist away, only for me to realized he had a knife. Blood was dripping from it, as Scourge laughed. He was completely insane.

I heard Shadow growl then cough up blood. Slowly falling to his knees and on to his side. He wasn't moving. Scourge slowly backed away, laughing insanely. My eyes widen, shoving myself up from the ground. I rushed towards Shadow.

Carefully lifting his head, he was barely breathing. I felt tears weld up, no... His body was running cold. Shadow looked up at me, smiling as tears fell. His eyes were dull as his body was losing heat. I saw his lips move, saying 'I'm sorry' before he slowly went limp. I gently shook him, not believe he was dead. He didn't respond, His crimson eyes now faded and staring at nothing. Trying not to cry, I slowly pulled him closer. You promised Shadow... You promised not to leave me! I couldn't control my emotions anymore, and let it all out. I felt the ground to shake and a voice calling my name.

-End of Dream-

"AHH!" I punched whoever was holding me and sat up. I felt my cheeks were soaked.

"What the hell Sonic?" I looked over seeing Shadow rubbing his cheek. He had a confused and concerned look. Tears weld up again as I threw myself at him, holding his so tight that I knew he was still there. "Sonic, Sonic calm down." He gently pulled me away. I took a deep breath, calming down.

"I'm calm..." I sighed, looking at his crimson eyes, trying to melt them into my mind. "I'm fine... Can we not talk about it?... Let's just go back to bed.. Please." He sighed, still concerned. He pulled me close, feeling with warmth and we fell back to sleep. I don't want to think about what just happen, I just want to sleep. Let's hope the dream won't come true.
