"Poppy are you okay?" mom asked when we got home.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"Landon mentioned separation anxiety…because of Connor?"
"No! Jamie!"
"Jamie? Why? He was just here yesterday."
"But today…he … it doesn’t matter."
"No poppy, what happened? Obviously you were upset enough to kick and punch your locker hurting yourself. What happened? Talk to me Poppy."
"He told me he needed space. He didn’t walk me to class, I didn’t see him until lunch when he told me that and walked away. He even saw me in the nurse's office and he didn’t check to see if I was okay!"
"Honey, you can't be so sensitive, maybe he is going through something? If it’s a family thing he could need space."
"But we tell each other everything!"
"Poppy, no one tells each other everything; just give him some time, and if in a week's time he doesn’t come around, confront him. Until then why don't you hang out with Landon, he was very kind to you."
"Fine, I'll hang out with him, but I will figure out what happened to Jamie. I swear I will find out why he is acting weird."
"Please, just relax, that is why you came home. Landon told the nurse that you were stressed. He convinced her you needed to go home. I want you to go in the T.V. room and watch TV and relax or read a book. Do whatever you want that will make you relax." Mom said.
"Fine, I'll go watch some TV."
My phone rang and I went to the kitchen but mom had answered it. I gave her a look and she pointed for me to go watch TV. She was talking to my brother. I was angry that my mom wouldn’t let me talk to Connor. I needed to talk to him or Jamie. I tried to push my thoughts away. I eventually got lost in an old cartoon I would watch when I was a kid. It comforted me. My mom walked in the room with Landon. I looked at the clock and it was four.
"Hey, I didn’t even hear the doorbell."
"You were wrapped in your TV show. It's okay. Landon is here to check on you. I'll leave you two alone to talk." My mom said as she walked out and up the stairs.
"Hey." Landon said sheepishly.
"Hey." I replied awkwardly.
"You feeling any better."
"Yeah, old TV shows save the day again." I said jokingly. We both laughed for a moment.
"Can I watch?"
"Yeah, I am watching an old batman cartoon."
"Cool, I love batman." Landon said curling up on the couch next to me.
We sat there watching batman for an hour. Mom made us snacks and we went into the kitchen and as we ate we started talking. My cell phone rang and my mom answered it and left the room. That bothered me. Landon saw the shift in my mood and cracked a lame joke that actually made me laugh. Landon stayed until five thirty then said he had to leave. Dad came home around that time. Mom came back in the kitchen.
"Hello dear." Mom said kissing dad.
"Hello dear. How is my little girl? I heard you left school today."
"Yeah, I did."
"Why?"
"I didn’t feel too good."
