I sat in my room, still unpacking, after what had been three days. Moving was kicking my ass. I never realized how much work it was to unpack until I had to unpack my own place. Even when dog tired and struggling to find what box had my favorite pair of shoes, I found a way to have my fun in the process.

My radio was set on my empty dresser. It only played the music I liked and nothing else. Prince has always complained that I wasn't too good with playing music that was commonly enjoyed amongst everyone but he sure wasn't the one to talk. He wasn't on my mind at this time. I was set on making my adult chores fun. I danced around as I hung articles of clothing in my closet, casually rapping along to my stereo that provided me with the rhymes of one of my uncle's favorite MC's.

"Clap your hands, everybody! If you got what it takes cause I'm Kurtis Blow and I want you to know... That these are the breaks!" I shook, pop, locked, and everything in-between as I continued to handle my business. I'd found my peace when the person I shared my mother's womb with walked in with a big ole' smile. I paused my music to squint at her in a stage of suspicion. "What's got your knockers flying?" She looked unusually glad.

Let's talk about Aaliyah, shall we? I wanted to be a star and she wanted to be a spoiled wife. She never got what she wanted until her priorities changed but the difference was still there. I always knew when she was looking at a new man or being sought after. She'd become oddly exuberant. Nobody smiled like Aaliyah once she had a new dick in her life. I can see where she and Prince got along in that realm. It was a quality that they shared. A new lover brought a new quality out of Aaliyah every single time.

"I met a guy!" She spun like a pretty princess covered in diamonds beneath the glistening moon, crash landing on my bed with a plump. Her eyes staring up at the ceiling, Aaliyah threw her legs up with a high squeal. "He was buzzing!"

I was excited because while Aaliyah meets new men nearly everyday, she was always too conservative to give them a chance. She had been, and I thought she forever would be, just a tad bit shallow. "What'd he look like? Where'd you meet him?" Her lips parted to speak when I cut her off one more time. "How old is he?" I needed to know what we were dealing with, especially with her grinning like that.

"Jeez, Chanel let me talk!"

I silenced myself and sat on down the floor as I finished folding my clothes. I put them into my dresser as my sister told me how it all happened. She was at the bank cashing her check when Mr. Right walked in... Nice suit and all. She said he didn't even have any piercings. Piercings didn't bother me but I had to remember, we're talking about Aaliyah. She then started to describe her 'perfect' man. Some of the things she said were a little bizarre but I let it go. He still sounded attractive after all was said and done. If she was down for it then so was I. My attitude at the time was strictly based on support and I kept my other thoughts to myself.

"Isn't he perfect?"

I turned my head over my shoulder and shot her a side-eye. I went back to folding my clothes. "A little too perfect, wouldn't you say?"

"Oh right, he's not your type," She said, playing with my Adidas. They were lying there on the bed. She was unlacing my fat laces and relacing them exactly how they already were. It displayed just how deep in thought she was... Either that or the way she was ignoring a number of red flags.

"I don't have a type," I simply said before closing my last drawer. All done, I thought. I stood up and dusted my pants from the hardwood floor. "Never have and never will." Aaliyah and I were practically one in the same. Not only did we look the same but we liked the same things. The only difference was the small things between us but damn did those make the biggest impact. For example, let her have dated a bigger man. She'd be all cool with it. Go out to the mall and stuff... Be all over him. The moment her friends call him a blar is the moment she'd book 'em in the dust!
