I'll be straight up. The first thing I remember about the next day is that raggedy ass crook in my neck... But there was more.

No sun shines like the Chanhassen sun that sends its rays to kiss down upon my resting face whenever I am deep within a slumber at Prince's house. This was something I began to realize quite early, surprisingly enough. I woke up on the blanket, still in the grass though my still body left a deepened indention. I sat up and saw Prince was still sleep. Something in me expected at least a slight snore but his breaths were silent and he slept with his face in his arms, keeping his hair in a suitable shape. The birds sounded as if they'd built nests surrounding us as they chirped, we were engulfed in their sound waves. I glanced down at my watch for some sense of time. I read it to be nine o'clock that morning. God knows what time we fell asleep that previous night— Or should I morning? Obviously, it was not planned.

I sat there looking at the clouds gathering my thoughts, you know, taking the experience in for once. I thought it was fair to say I'd made my first close male friend. I always have had male friends but it was at this point that I had a man, who I shared not an ounce of DNA with, who I truly felt a deep rooted bond with. Besides, I didn't have many friends to begin and that made it even more exciting. I was never a loner or anything of the such. Things had gotten complicated after my record deal, that's all. It wasn't anything to sweat.

Airplanes and jets streamed white stripes in the sky, remaining as my only connection to the real world as I was humming to myself and playing with grass in my lap. I can't tell you how much time passed but I wasn't awake by myself for long. Prince yawned, sitting up a couple inches away from me on his side of the blanket. His face screamed grouchy as he deeply rubbed the deep crevice of his neck. I scooted back more because I didn't want him to smell my morning breath.

"Good morning," he said in the sleep ridden voice. I was taken aback by the way his bass made my knees tremble. Considering all things previously said and the fact that this is Prince we're talking about here, I wasn't turned on in anyway shape or form though I have to admit that he truly has the voice of a man. I'd never heard anything like it just yet.

As if I wasn't sitting in his backyard at his house, I asked the one question that doesn't make sense to me now. I must've not thought it over back then. I asked Prince, "What're you doing up?"

"A little birdie woke me up with her singing." He sat up next to me with a smile on his face as he rubbed his eyes with the head of his radius. His hair was somehow damn near perfect as if he'd done nothing more than shuffle it. It was messy but like I said, damn near perfect. "What time is it?"

Going off of the last time I checked, I told him, "'Bout nine. What time did we pass out?"

"Hell, I don't know." He grabbed the Burger King bags, yawned, and stood up. I followed him through the patio door that took us to his spacious kitchen. "What's on the agenda today? I think I'll be hittin' the studio again..." He thought to himself aloud while he opened the refrigerator, pulling out one of those prepackaged diet on-the-go protein shakes. I sat on a bar stool by the island nearly blown away. I'd never think of him as being someone to drink those. I later learned they could be meal replacements for people who struggle with eating. Prince was replacing meals before the teenage girls wanted a microscopic waist like Cindy.

My head shook, eyes shutting with the waving of my hands. "Nuh uhn. Susan already gave me the deets on your working habits, kid. We gone do somethin' fun. What do y'all do for fun around here?" Standing up, I reached for the orange juice. "Take me where'd you go back in high school or something."

The way his eyes brightened as his mouth twisted told me that the lightbulb sitting above his invisible crown had lit up with a ding that only could be heard by Prince.
