She told me as long as I wanted her there, she'd stay. I've heard it before and each time I've never believed them, not those women. This time is different. I know she means what she's said and I believe her because against it all, she left her man at home to be here. She chose me.

Omar's delusions are getting worse. At this point, he wants me to take his woman from him. I won't... Not today, at least. Funnily enough, in a weird and funky twisted kind of way, I don't have to. The difference between him and I lies in the similarities between she and I. Lyric's my real friend. If it wasn't for her being bored and me having Susannah at the time, she wouldn't have gone as far as giving him the time on her watch. In more ways than one, she's already on my hook. I won't take advantage of that because I care about her more than I care about my ego.

When it comes down to my relationships with female friends, things tend to go left. Tangled feelings, miscommunication, jealousy. I'll be damned if I let Lyric get away. She's someone who keeps me sane. I love her enough to know shifting our dynamics to that direction isn't the best thing for her. I missed my window. The short, slither of a second I wanted it, she wouldn't give a brother the time of day. Now, we're in too deep. Years of friendship created a special connection that has backed us into a corner where if one of us did put the moves on someone, we'd have to commit for life. I know I wouldn't want to share her but forever is a hell of a long time.

Committed forever? To a single one? It's something that I'm simply not capable of right now and she knows it. Matter of a fact, she's the person who forced me to face that music. I can want whatever I want, but it's going to take me a few test trials to figure that one out. My first trial can be seen as Susannah and that was a failure. Going for Lyric would take a whole lot of something I don't all the way have yet and that's too much of a gamble for me. So I'll say it again, that punk she's tolerating at home got lucky.

Lyric walks back into the studio with some snacks I assume she got from the kitchen. "Okay, I'm ready." Dropping the junk food on the floor, she aims for them to land next to my folded leg. "Talk to me, P. What's goin' on?" She sits down next to me, fingers flipping through all of the junk like a plethora of records.

If you didn't know any better, you'd think her past life was a 400 lbs. woman. She eats with her every emotion. Want to make her happy, bring some food. If she's sad, bring her some food. Whenever she's angry or sporting a nasty attitude, food brings her back to Earth. Lyric's always snacking. The weight sitting on her thighs makes a lot more sense when you look at it through this lens.

"She said..." I pick up the bag of Doritos and pull them open. Dropping them between us, my hand goes inside for something to chew. "She said that she didn't trust me." I ain't been eating too much this past week. I figure maybe if I indulge in Lyric's healing methods, I can find my silver-lining in all of this in the fashion her optimistic self would. "She said she loves me, but she can't trust me and that makes her uncomfortable. I told it'd be different but she don't believe me, I guess."
