"I haven't sang in a week. I haven't use my voice in a whole week. It feels like it's been forever. "
Omar sat down and pulled my feet into his lap. Removing my shoes, he told me, "Just a week, Lyric. You act like it's been a century." Rubbing my feet, he spoke with irritation. The tables had turned and I didn't like it. Everything I said seemed to have annoyed him. I didn't know what I was doing wrong and it made me feel like I was walking on eggshells.
"Baby, it's not easy. Think about it, you shower every morning. Something happens and you can't shower for a week, so when you do shower and it feels like you haven't showered in forever!"
"What are you getting into logic for? Baby, it's honestly not that serious." Rising to my feet while he laughed, I put on my shoes. I didn't like the way he was belittling my passion. Besides, the bridal shower was in a bit and I still wanted to head back to my place to freshen up. "I didn't mean to make you upset," he said, noticing my heavy exhale.
"I'm not upset. I just need to head out to my sister's bridal shower." I slipped my feet into my loafers, kissed his cheek, and grabbed my bag to run out of the door. When I got downstairs, I saw the same little nags from everywhere else I go. Somebody was catching on to my patterns and leaked the hotel I visited most often, thinking I was staying there when I was actually seeing my boyfriend at the time.
"Did you get your voice back?"
"Where's your boyfriend?"
"Who's Ricky?"
"Lyric, when are you releasing a new single?"
"Soon!" I shouted to the last one, heading toward the car. I didn't really have security always with me because I never felt I needed it. I was naïve. You always need security, even if you weren't on the cover of magazines. Sadly, the only time I had security was if I was at an event, never on a regular day. Simply because I wanted to walk around like the Typical Teresa I thought I was.
"Are you still on tour with Prince?"
A younger voice shouted, "Lyric, can you sign this?"
Stopping in my tracks, I saw a girl about sixteen years old. A young Hispanic girl with big gray eyes.
Keep that smile on your face! -Lyric❤️
Then comes a younger girl following behind. Next is a boy. They filled up the sidewalk by the second. I spent fifteen minutes signing records, notebooks, t-shirts, all types of things! Finally, I got to head over to my secret apartment but my time on glamming up was very limited at that point. Cute, I was once again in my pajamas. My hair had grown, it was chest length just like I knew my sister liked, it was staying like this for her wedding. I wanted to look perfect for her.
