They met at lunch at their regular spot in the cafeteria.
Genna slumped down on to the bench "I am sooo ready for this day to be over."
"Yeah, then we can finally see what our powers can really do!" Marla said, though her voice was laced with apprehension.
"Totally!" Isaiah said, while raising his hand for a high five. Marla saw the gesture and slapped his hand in agreement. "This is going to be the coolest thing in the world."
"Not really," Hannah started with a worried look. "I just learned how to STOP my powers, and I feel like using them is just going to start them back up again," she looked up at everyone to see if they agreed, but it seemed like they were all in mid thought about what she had said. "Nevermind, I'm just being a buzzkill, it is cool to have the ability to basically control reality".
Autumn jumped to reassure Hannah's self doubt, "No, no, you're right. They can get out of control, but we were just so excited to finally get to use our powers." Autumn tried her best to cheer up Hannah.
"Okay, I'm sure it couldn't be that bad"
Isaiah came to the spot where everyone was meeting. "Sorry I'm late, this place is really secluded and I got a little lost along the way here."
"Secluded or is this forest cursed so only we could enter?" Marla said in a ghostly echo voice "And it was leading you through twist and turns because you were being followed?!"
"Okay now that would be cool."
"Oh, yeah I guess so but I was trying to scare you."
"How is mentioning a cool theory in a ghost voice supposed to be scary?"
"Um... Boo?"
Genna fiendishly smiled at their small talk "I'm gonna scare you both!" she shouted, punching the air in front of them, focusing on making fire in her hand. Isaiah and Marla jumped out of the way expecting a fireball to scorch a tree trunk behind them. Nothing happened. "As soon as I figure out what I did last week"
"Dude you could've killed us if that had worked!" Isaiah angrily screamed.
"Yeah, be careful!" Marla continued.
Genna fully ignored them, looking down at her hand. "Guys, what if we don't have powers?"
Hannah turned to Genna away from the water in complete shock. "Genna, that's impossible. If we don't have powers then what happened last week?"
"Hannah, we got knocked out. Maybe it was a shared dream, or illusion, or something".
Marla butted in "Yeah, I have to admit this does seem illogical."
"Forget logic!" Hannah yelled back.
"I'm just saying..."
"Marla..." Autumn interrupted "If you want logic then here is mine. What knocked us out in the first place, where are we right now, and what is this?!" Autumn turned her arm around to show the green fall leaf on her wrist.
Marla turned to look at Genna and Isaiah. They nodded in agreement and went back to trying to trigger their powers. Marla did the same and the whole group went back to normal. They now had more on their mind than ever.
