Hannah, Genna, Isaiah, Marla, and Autumn all agreed to meet in the clearing on Saturday, but that was a long ways off and they tried to get through it. Autumn went home and so did Marla. Hannah came home with Genna for a weekend sleepover. Marla came home but her family didn't really care that she had a mark on herself, or that she drew on herself all the time. However this was nothing new. Autumn came home to her family as well but she was expected to wash it off by the next morning, and that was a problem.Genna and Hannah were smart enough to try to hide their marks and kept their arms inward whenever someone came near. Isaiah just tried to hide in his room most of the time. School on the other hand was an entirely different story. Isaiah, Genna, Hannah, Marla, and Autumn tried to get it over with but there were some problems.
In the first class of the day Marla raised her hand and forgot all about her symbol. After the teacher noticed it she got demerits for writing on herself. The rest of the day fared no better for anyone else. None could control their powers. And it was even worse when they tried to explain.
When Genna went out to P.E., the sun was blazing but to anyone that knew what was going on it wasn't the sun at all.
"Dude it's so hot today!" complained a fellow running student behind Genna, "Wait it's warmer over here."
A boy next to him chuckled "You think it's Genna?"
Frightened that what they might find out Genna panicked "Well, I'm flattered that you think I'm that hot but I don't think I'm the reason for your tan line."
"Ooooooh! She schooled you!" the boy yelled.
Embarrassed that he just got burned by a girl he ran ahead and his friend went after him, teasing him along the way. Genna smiled, satisfied that she avoided the situation.
Meanwhile Hannah was in science class and doing a lab. Just a simple pH lab.
"Hey, Hannah." Her lab partner said while writing down observations. "You wanna do the water?"
"Sure" Hannah said as she reached toward the beaker. The beaker slid away from her grasp as Hannah got close. She tried again but it moved farther away this time.
"Something wrong with the water?" Hannah's lab partner questioned.
Hannah pulled away "Um, no." She paused, as she tried to make up a good excuse. "I'm trying to make sure that... this is... really water." She smiled and laughed awkwardly.
"Well, it's clear it doesn't smell like anything and I'm pretty sure that it says H20."
"A real scientist always makes sure."
"Okay crazy pants, let me take over and you, as a 'real scientist', will watch and 'make sure' nothing goes wrong," she remarked, slowly taking the glass of water, "If that's okay..."
"Yep, sure. Fine by me."
Things fared no better for anyone, but the worst was yet to come. The week was almost over; it was Friday on a particularly pleasant day. The group had gotten better with their abilities: computers no longer glitched around Isaiah, flowers and other plants didn't casually grow larger when Autumn was near, and Marla even found out how to stop animals from randomly following her around.
