Clara's POV

"Hurry it up!" I yelled at the bottom of the stairs at James. We were going to be late for Stacey's party. She was already blowing up my phone about how nervous she was. Her popularity was all she cared about. I can't exactly blame her, high school was all she knew. When you're in high school it's everything. Her parents were out of town so she decided to throw a party for last night's football victory. I told her that as long as there were booze the party was guaranteed to be successful.

"He's so making you late on purpose," said Nick as he appeared next to me.

"Are you coming?" I ask. He only graduated a year before us, although he didn't make many friends. All the friends that he did have left for college.

"Nah, you kids go have fun, " he said acting like he was so much older. Truth be told he was the more responsible one. James was always picking fights and getting into trouble while I never take anything too seriously. Nick could always be relied on.

James finally came down. His curly hair was all over the place, but somehow perfectly place. He was dressed in a shirt and jeans. Boys had it easy. They never have to spend so much time on appearances as girls do.

"You ready?" I asked obviously annoyed at him for taking his time. It wouldn't surprise me if he was, as Nick said, taking his time on purpose. Anything to do with Stacey he tried his best to annoy her.

"Yeah," he said grabbing the car keys out of my hand.

"I was going to drive," I said following him while trying to reach for the keys.

"No way," he said putting them over his head, "Every time you drive I feel my life flash before my eyes."

"Ha ha," I said, "Very funny."

I climbed into the driver seat before James could stop me and closed the door on him, "Give it."

"Aw man," he said reluctantly giving me the keys.

"You drive like a grandpa," I started up the car and backed out of the road way. We were now ten minutes late.

"Dude, Stacey just won't leave you alone, "James said showing my phone being blown up with texts messages, "You should have been the nerd at this school, then you wouldn't have to deal with Stacey." Stacey may be persistent, dramatic, totally annoying, but she had heart. She never acted like a complete bitch, just a mild one.

"Tell her I'm on my way," I said and James nodded.

"Okay," James said, "Sent. I told her to fuck off."

"What?!" this was so like James to do, "Why did you say that?"

"Because she is annoying," he said shrugging, "Don't get angry, I put a heart emoji and my name after it."

I grabbed my phone out of his hands, "You're not allowed to touch this anymore."

"Whoa slow down Clara," James said as he noticed the speed limit and how fast I was going.

"We are almost there," I said as we came onto her street. My turn was a little too fast which caused James to grab a hold of the car.

Stacey's place was completely packed. There were cars all over the street and teenagers lingering about everywhere. I found an opening spot close to her house and parked.

"Holy crap," James said as he got out of car, "I never thought I would miss the grass so much."

"Oh shut it," I said getting out as well. I put my phone in my bag and started heading on inside, "You're so dramatic."
