Chapter 11

Avory

She looked back at me and said yeah, while nodding. Her eyes got bigger and she looked unsure all of a sudden, and then she bit her lower lip. She looked so innocent it was hard for me to be any type of annoyed with her. Truthfully though, I wasn’t. She hadn’t really annoyed me. I was only confused as to where we were. She had made such a grand gesture about it; made such a fuss, and was so excited; and the place was a small looking shop.

Once we entered the small shop, a man came from behind a counter and walked over to us with a slight swagger in his step. No, I don’t mean charisma, although it was slightly charismatic. I mean a legitimate swagger; a slight limp in his step.

“Kitana,” he said just before he stopped in front of us and shared some type of hand gesture with her. I think it was a type of hand shake, which lasted almost a whole minute before they looked from the motions their hands were making to each other, while smiling.

“Oh, I missed you so much,” she said as they embraced one another and she dug her face into his chest, while he set his face into the crook of her neck. I wasn’t sure how to take this. Should I have been mad that this male was all over the woman I was with? I probably should have been, but I wasn’t, not really. He posed no actual threat to me. If I wanted I could easily rip his esophagus out of his throat.

“So, how’s my fave lil’ cuz’?” he questioned once they finally released their holds on each other. See- there- nothing to worry about they are Cuzes. Wait what’s a cuz? I thought while they smiled at one another. Then it came to me, I remembered; a cuz is short colloquial slang for cousin.

“I’m good. But, . . . whatever it doesn’t matter,” she said waving her hand up and down, dismissing the previous thought she had just had.

I looked from her to him and it was as if he understood her completely, because he answered, “you’re right it doesn’t.”

Then he looked at me. “Hi, I’m Craig.” he said while sticking his hand out in front of him. I took it, shook it, and replied, “Avory.”

I’m guessing Kitana felt a bit awkward at our introductions, then again maybe not.

“Craig, Avory here’s looking for a phone, and a plan, and he asked me for help. So, I know exactly what I want for him,” she stated. I couldn’t really tell what her emotions were, she sounded monotone. But, by the words she said, I knew she was a woman on a mission.

Craig scratched the back of his head while giving me an awkward smile. “Dude, are you really going to let this crazy girl choose your phone and plan?”

Before I could answer she hit him and started yelling at him about how she wasn’t crazy and how it wasn’t her fault about something about an old phone of his.

I walked away and blocked them out, as if to say, I don’t know these people. I walked down an isle, and decided to check out these “cell phones”.

I hadn’t even made it half way down the isle before I felt Kitana run up behind me and grab my hand and swing me around to face her. “You don’t want these crappy ass phones,” she said a little out of breath, “come with me, I’ve got everything all set and waiting.” she said the last part while practically dragging me to where that Craig guy was sitting.

Craig looked at me a bit uneasy. “Dude, you sure you want to do this?”

“Yes, he is.” Kitana answered for me through gritted teeth. I was a slightly confused because after her little display of anger and dominance she looked at me and gave me a large smile that spread across her face. It lit up her face entirely. She was so happy I think it might have been rubbing off on me. I began getting curious. I questioned her about what she had chosen for me.
