As L drove the car, (frankly, he was a rather good driver) you felt as though this was something you had been waiting your entire life for. Your chest was filled with butterflies.
The two of you decided to spend the afternoon together. First, you would go to a cafe, then to the movies, and lastly, back to your house. You choose a scary movie, hoping for some possible cuddle time. The scenery of the country road was beautiful and eggstravagant. Birds flew, plants moved with the wind, animals grazed. It was an absolutely, wonderful day.
"___..." L spoke as he turned the steering wheel.
"Yes?"
He didn't keep his eyes off of the road as his monotone voice continued. "We've been together for over ten years. In that time, we have developed more than a friendship," He reached into his jean's left pocket. "If all goes well tonight, will you marry me?"
Your mouth dropped to the bottom of the car. It was your first date, your first boyfriend, and the man was already proposing. Was this really the road you wanted to go down? He was everything you searched for in a partner; your intellect level, causal conversation, a quirky personality, and the ease of being with that person. L fulfilled all of these things and more.
"I'll...I'll think about it." You smiled in his direction.
That faint smile that occasionally could be seen from the century's greatest detective was present on the young man's face. He didn't respond, though you could tell he was slightly disappointed with your answer. You arrived upon the cafe as your thoughts raced.
"Do couples hold hands this early on?" You asked.
He shrugged. "Some do, I suppose. Though, since we've known each other for quite some time..." Surprisingly, he grabbed your left hand in a frenzy. "Then I should say that it is quite alright."
Your smile grew and grew as you walked into the cafe. A waiter sat you down at a table in the back of the restaurant. L ordered a usual cup of black coffee, to which he added approximately two cups of sugar. You ordered whatever you wanted, and the two of you talked about regular stuff that you supposed regular people talked about.
"In two years, another presidential election will take place in the United States. Who do you think would be a great candidate?" You spun your mug around.
He sipped his black coffee. "I honestly don't know, nor do I care at the moment. We have better things to worry about..." The waiter came back and asked for your orders in German. The two of you responded fluently, ordering a huge plate of fruit.
By the time the plate of fruit got to you two, L had eaten most of the sugar packets at the table. This had shocked the waiter, but you were used to L's usual sweet tooth. After all, he had been caught stealing sweets from Mr. Wammy's on multiple occasions. L stole from the pantry so often that Mr. Wammy had installed a fridge inside the man's room!
L finished most of his share before you did. You ate slowly and carefully, trying not to choke from your excitement. You thanked the waiter for his work, and the chef for preparing the delicious meal. L payed in cash, tipping the waiter well. He drove you to the theater next.
The two of you decided on the horror film Godzilla as your movie date. Throughout parts of the movie, you would quiver during "scary" scenes. Couples sharing the theater with you proceeded to make out. L took your hand, surprising you. You smiled and blushed as he returned the smile to you. His hand was cold, as yours was warm. A perfect match to balance out the temperature.
You turned to him, a lock of hair covering his eyes. An adorable grin was the only thing visible on his face. Slowly, the two of you moved in for a kiss. The first touch was wet and squishy. Your lips locked, closing the bond between love. Hands were locked between the two of you as Godzilla screamed into the theater. You chuckled, who knew that your first kiss would be with the century's greatest detective?
Once the movie ended, so did the countless number of people who were kissing. You and L walked out of the theater happily holding hands. You were sad that he had to let go to get into the other side of the car. He took your hand rather quickly when he did get into the driver's seat. You drove back to your home in the country, taking about thirty minutes. In that time, you carelessly fell asleep in the car.
L took you out of the vehicle once you arrived home. Still sleeping, he carried you (like a bride) out of the car. "I guess since the date went well, you will have to marry me." He whispered into your ear.
Mr. Wammy was casually reading a newspaper on the couch. "___ isn't dead, is she?"
"She is very much alive." He went towards the stairs. "By the way, Watari. Have you received more information on the con man and the thief?"
"Yes, you should be able to catch them soon."
"I think they will be rather useful in the future."
He took you upstairs to your bed. Little did you know, he would work on your computer during the night while you slept. L was able to work quicker with your calming presence in the room. He laid you down, making sure to make it swift and careful. Your breathing was very calm.
L shook his head. The young man went over to your computer to begin working.
The con man and the thief would be his.
