Hidden cameras and wiretaps had since been placed in the homes of Deputy Director Kitamura and Superintendent Soichiro Yagami. Soichiro had agreed without a fight, so that had proven his loyalty to the Kira investigation. Yagami had insured that every millimeter of the house was covered, including the bathrooms. Due to Soichiro's cooperation, L had agreed for you, himself, and Yagami to patrol bedrooms and bathrooms. Aizawa, Mogi, Ukita, and Matsuda would switch between watching the Kitamura residence, manning the office, and watching subway surveillance video. You offered to monitor Sayu Yagami, and Soichiro and L would monitor Light and Sachiko.

When Matsuda had informed Soichiro of the consequences, he had an outburst, which was to be expected. Matsuda was told to shut up, as usual, and the detectives had to carry on with their regular work. L had decided on week for surveillance. No more, and no less.

Light Yagami was the first to arrive home on the eighth. L, Soichiro, and you had begun the monitoring of the Yagami household. The doorbell rang, then a key was inserted into the lock of the front door. Light stepped into the house, a familiar face of boredom upon the young man. He reminds me of L's apathy. You thought.

L mentioned the fact that Light some sort of paper mechanism in his door, switching to camera #85. Light seemed to ponder around his room, seeming as though the boy was finding regular occurrences to make obvious to the investigators. He grabbed a coat out of his room, and left the Yagami residence. Before he left, however, he made sure to put the paper back into the door. A pattern...

L piped up. "Well, considering he's seventeen, it isn't that unusual. I did some pretty odd things as a teen myself..."

Yeah, you did. You tried not to chuckle. L mentioned how Light seemed interested in the Kira case, and asked Soichiro if he had shared anything with the young genius.

"No, of course not! Light does want to be an investigator when he grows up, but I would never go as far as revealing classified case information..." Yagami seemed offended by this accusation.

Soichiro tried to defend himself and his between the time Light had left and when he had gotten back. "Haruhi, what do you think of Light's behavior?"

You thought for a moment, not wanting to upset the detective further. "Well... Teenagers are different creatures. They think they're higher than everyone else, when really, they have no idea what they would do without their parents or friends. Teenagers think that anything their parents do or say is most likely incorrect, so Light probably doesn't want you or your wife to know if he's reading something he shouldn't be..."

As if on cue, Light entered his home once again, going to his room. He drew a book from the paper bag in his hand, and revealed a dirty magazine.

"Like...that." You responded.

Soichiro was very embarrassed by his son's immaturity. He tried to stand up for his teenage son's behavior, but L interrupted.

"He's seventeen, so it's common. You probably did the same, Yagami-San." L sneered just enough for you to see it. Soichiro blushed, taking notes on his son's behavioral patterns.

"Is Light a suspect?" The father asked.

"Of course. I wouldn't have placed wiretaps in both residences if none of the dwellers were suspects." Soichiro sighed, thinking how to help clear his family's name.

Later that night, L made sure that both the Kitamura and Yagami residences were viewing the television network that aired information about 1,500 investigators being sent to Japan to help with the Kira case. Sayu Yagami seemed impressed, while Light stated how stupid the ICPO was, increasing suspicion between L and yourself. Light mentioned how it was most likely aired to initiate a reaction by Kira, causing L to chuckle.

"Your son is smart, Yagami-San." L's thumb was once again in his mouth.

"Well, yes..?"

"Very smart..."

Light went upstairs to work on his homework. You monitored Sayu as she worked in her room, which was more like procrastination. "Misa Amane is such a great celebrity! I want to be just like her..." Sayu continued to not work on her homework.

Misa Amane...I'll listen to her when the Yagamis go to bed. Better get in touch with what a Kira suspect likes to watch...

Soichiro sighed. "Sayu, do your homework for once..."

As Sayu did not work, Light was quickly finishing his homework. To you, it seemed he would have been finished earlier if it wasn't for the chip intake. He seemed to have an air of confidence wave off of him as he finished his work, storing it in a folder neatly. "Your son seems to be studying very hard, while your daughter, not very much..." L breathed to the eldest Yagami.

"Light cares deeply about his grades, while Sayu is just living in the moment..." Soichiro sighed for perhaps the millionth time since you met him. The poor man's hair was greying more and more every single day.

Watari walked into the room to inform the three of you about an embezzler and purse-snatcher who died of heart attacks while you were watching the Yagamis. Due to the presence of no news stations to any members of that household, Soichiro declared, "That means my family is innocent!"

"It's so funny how clean the behavior was..."

The next day, L informed the Task Force that there was no suspicion in any of the households, and that the bugs and wiretaps were to be removed. A majority of the force seemed disappointed, while Soichiro reminded the group that they needed to persevere to find the monster, Kira.

"There's still a 5% possibility that one of them may be Kira, but I already said we're moving out." The group talked while L thought to himself, and you noticed a slight change in his facial expression as the group wrapped up.

Later that night, your husband approached you in a nearby room. "Haruhi, I am going to reveal myself to Light Yagami."

"You're not telling the others, are you?"

"Only Watari and yourself. Besides, they would overreact, anyways. You will not be anywhere near To-Oh University, no matter how compelled you feel yourself to be there. Understood?" He looked for a protest in your eyes.

Smiling, you knew it'd be useless to argue. "Gotcha. You've already registered, right?"

"Yes. It will happen in ten days, on the entrance exam." L kissed you on the cheek.

L had entered To-Oh University to take the entrance exam. It took him less than a day to memorize the answers, so he was overly prepared for the examination. He took his seat, Light Yagami arriving confidently five minutes before the starting time.

Light Yagami...very smart...

The black-haired detective's eyes never left the brunet's back. Hunching over his exam, he finished in ten minutes to observe the teen in person. His concentration is distracted. I wouldn't be surprised if he missed one question on this test, but then it would be a clear signal to me that he was on edge.

The teen was controlling his actions as fluidly as possible. His pencil led chiseled down, the sinking feeling that he was being watched remained.

"Student 162... Sit properly." Light turned around, making eye contact with the foreign man. He seems....mental. Light thought.

The first glance between cat and mouse was made.
