"Lacey no" my mother screamed out as the car came racing towards me.
I stopped and closed my eyes hard waiting for darkness to consume me. What would death feel like? But it didn't come. I opened my eyes and I saw my mother and father standing on the other side of the road breathing a sigh of relief as they came running towards me.
What had saved me?
I was jolted awake with beads of sweat ran down the sides of my face. I sighed as I ran my hand through my hair and got out of the bed. Why did I keep relieving those memories? Everytime I rewatched them, it never gave me the answers I wanted. Who saved me?
I checked the time on my clock, 4 am, and sighed. When was the last time I got a decent nights sleep? It was still dark out but I decided to go for a run to wake me up. I threw on some sweatpants and hoodie, put my hair in to a ponytail and headed out the door. The cold air hit me making me shiver but it did wake me up so I was thankful.
The roads were silent as were the streets. Everyone was still asleep apart from me who never slept nowadays. My brain seems to think I want to relive all the times I nearly died. I guess I'm just prone to almost dying.
As I jogged down narrow paths and in to the quiet park, I felt the presence. The same presence I had been feeling since I was a child. I used to call it my guardian angel but it doesn't seem like it could be because whatever this is is alive. No matter how many times I try to quickly turn around and catch whatever it is following me it's never there. It's smarter than me.
By the time I made it home, people were beginning to leave for work. I smiled at them as I jogged up to my house and went in where I was greeted by my parents.
"Good morning honey" my mother said as she fried up some bacon for my father. She was wearing a black and white pencil dress that hugged her curves elegantly.
"Morning mum" I say to her as she kisses me on the cheek.
I walk through to the dining room where my father is sitting in navy suit and white shirt reading a newspaper. He smiles at me as I sit down at the table.
"Good morning Lacey" he says looking up from his paper. "Jogging again?"
"Yeah I didn't get much sleep last night so I thought I would wake myself up with a morning run" I said to him.
"Oh honey, was it a nightmare?" My mother asks as she comes in and puts three bits of bacon on my father's plate.
"Kind of" I admit not meeting her gaze.
"Should we call the doctors?" She asks looking concerned for me.
"No no, it's nothing don't worry about it mum" I tell her.
"You sure?" She asks cupping my face. "You're ever so pale and you're getting bags under your eyes"
I push her hand away from my face. "Mum, I'm fine trust me. I'm going to go get ready now"
"Okay honey" my mother says as she leaves the room.
I get up from the table and go upstairs to start getting ready for the day. Putting on my speaker, I played Exo's Monster full blast as I did my make up. My mum and dad hated it when I played my music loud but I didn't care.
When I first started noticing that something was following me and protecting me, I told my family about them. I told them everything.
"Mum. Dad. Something is following me and protecting me" I said to them as they looked at me like I was crazy. "I know I sound insane but please believe me"
