-------------------- Chapter Forty-Three --------------------

Melissa woke me up the next morning, around ten o'clock.

She and Riley had brought up some breakfast and were trying to get me to eat.

"Please Ari? Just a little bit?" Melissa pleads.

"You haven't eaten since you came home yesterday." Riley says, holding a spoonful of cereal to my lips.

I don't open my mouth.

I can't eat now, I'll just throw it up later, and anyway, I'm not hungry enough to eat.

"You're not going to eat, are you?" Riley sighs, putting the spoon a little closer to my mouth just in case I do eat something.

I drag my eyes away from the wall to stare at him blankly.

"No, guess not." He says, putting the spoon back in the bowl. Melissa sighs.

"You really aren't helping us here." She sighs.

Riley picks up the tray and takes it downstairs, leaving me and Melissa alone.

"Are you ok? You look a little pale..." Melissa says, coming over and feeling my forehead.

"Oh my God, your forehead is burning up. Wait here, I'll go get Matt." She instructs.

Like I'm going anywhere, I think.

And now that I think about I do feel queasy in the pit of my stomach. I lean back up against the head board, and close my eyes.

Matt and Melissa come back in the room, and Matt feels my forehead, and I hear him make a noise of shock and sort of displeasure.

He opens my eye, and I swat his hand away, frowning.

"Just open your eyes wider." He says, and I do as he looks in them.

"I don't think you can see much in them, they're still milky." Melissa points out.

"Yeah, I guess so." He says, checking my pulse.

My stomach gurgles.

"Someone get a bucket!" Melissa yells, and Riley quickly scuttles in and hands it to Matt who holds it by my face.

My stomach gurgles again. "Uh-oh." I moan, burping against my will, before leaning over and throwing up in the bucket.

"Why is she suddenly so sick?" Riley asks, as he calls everyone down here to tell them I'm sick.

"I don't know. She was fine just a minute ago." Melissa says, sitting next to me and holding my hair away from my face.

"Well, she's got a high fever, she just vomited, and her eyes are a milky white instead of blue, but at least her pulse is steady." Matt informs everyone.

"So why's she sick?" Riley asks.

"Well, she is obviously suffering from a great deal of stress, and anxiety, not to mention she hasn't had a drink or any ford in more than a day, and she's been crying so much." Matt checks off.

"Ok, so how do we fix that?" Andre asks.

Matt stares at him and I open one eye lazily, my chest still heaving.
