~Katlyn’s Past

After she said that, she started crying again and I just stayed next to her, tapping her on the back. Until finally, she stopped and just laid there quietly.

“You don’t have to tell me what’s wrong unless you want to ok?” I told her, and she nodded her head.

“It’s my boyfriend, or ex as of today,” she said in a low whisper.

“Why’d you break up?” I asked her.

“He started hanging out with the wrong crowd a while back, and today he almost hit me,” she said.

“Are you alright?” I asked.

“Yeah, I’m fine, why don’t we do something else?” she offered.

“Up for listening to music and eating ice-cream?” I asked her.

“I’ll get the ice-cream,” she said. When she went into the kitchen I started hooking up my phone to her speaker, and picking out good songs. I picked the song “I Just Wanted Your Love,” by: Alexz Johnson, when Katlyn came back. The melody engulfed the room and we sat by her bed.

“You got time, if time is what you needed. You're not mine; I rather not believe you're fine, rather think you're up all night. You're alright, you knew me when you met me

let’s not fight; I'm just a little feisty. Maybe, maybe I would lose my mind…” The lyrics said, and Katlyn listened quietly, eating her cookies and cream ice-cream.

“So where are you from?” I asked Katlyn as the song changed to “Chasing Pavement.”

“Iowa and you?

“Kentucky,” I said.

“Were practically related,” she said, half smiling.

“Burlesque, classic!” I said, grinning. Then we just sat on the floor for a while talking about random stuff like favorite movies and books.

“Want to go somewhere?” she suddenly asked.

“Where’d you have in mind?” I asked.

“Anywhere really, I just want to get my mind off of him,” she replied.

“Okay let’s just take a walk,” I offered.
