~You’ve Made Your Bed

*Jade’s P.O.V.

            My dad had brought her…Lacy, the woman my dad had cheated on my mom with.

            “Jade,” Mackenzie said when she saw me and urged me down.      

            “I’m so glad you’re here,” my father said and he came over to hug me. I flinched and backed away from him. Then I looked over to see my mom tensed up and I could tell she didn’t know about this…surprise.

            “Jade, this is Lacy, dad’s girlfriend,” Kenzie said and I just nodded my head before walking over to my mom and putting my arms around her.

            “Stay strong?” I whispered to her. “What are you doing here?” I asked out loud.

            “I called him and told him you were coming,” Kenzie replied. I wasn’t talking about dad but I didn’t bother to correct myself either. My mom pulled away from my embrace and headed towards the kitchen. I followed while Mackenzie stayed in the living room with dad and Lacy.

            “Mom, are you okay?” I asked her. Tears had formed in her eyes.

            “I just can’t believe he’d do this to me,” she said.

            “I knew this was a mistake,” I whispered to myself.

            “How could you say that? You are the only thing getting me through this, it just hurts,” she told me.

            “Mom this is my fault,” I told her.

            “Don’t you dare think that! This is the mess your father and I made,” she said. Not wanting to upset her further but needing to know I asked, “So Kenzie’s met…Lacy?”

            “Your dad brought her over when I wasn’t here and now they’re great friends.”

            “I’m sorry for not wanting to talk to you mom, but I needed space. I felt like I needed to hate you because of the hurt you were causing yourself, but the only fault you have is loving dad,” I told her.

            “Sweetheart, I know,” she said pulling me into a hug. “Now help me finish cooking so we can get through this dinner,” she added. I smiled and started to help her.

            All through the night Lacy and Kenzie were inseparable. I felt hurt and betrayed and the need to tell her about dad’s betrayal became stronger. I barely talked to dad or Lacy and stayed with my mom basically the whole time. When they left I sighed in relief, I don’t think I could have handled another giggle from Lacy without exploding. I saw mom start to clean up and helped her when Kenzie went outside to say goodbye to dad.

            “Worst.Birthday.Ever,” I told my mom.

            “I have something that might cheer you up,” mom said walking to the living room and I followed.
