Chapter 38 : Sophia Santiago

A girl named Sophia in South Carolina is a popular student for having such a great beauty and mind. But because of that, many students, especially girls, envy her. She has friends but you can really count them using her fingers.

Everyone thought that she's having a perfect life but no one knows that she's struggling inside.

Eversince Sophia was born, she never experienced to have a father, a complete family and a love that she wants from her mother. For Sophia, her mother was still the best of all.

Life is so unfair. She always mumbles that word to herself whenever she feels hopeless at everything. She's the type of person who can't be contented until she doesn't feel any satisfaction.

"Mom, I'm home!"

Sa tuwing umu-uwi siya ng bahay, lagi nalang siyang sumisigaw para sabihin sa kanyang ina na siya ay naka-uwi na. At sanay na din siya na hindi nakakarinig na kahit anuman tugon mula dito.

She went to her mother's room and she saw her sitting on the bed while looking at a picture. Simula ng namulat ang isipan niya sa mundo, malimit niyang makita ang mama niya sa posisyon na yun. Halos araw-araw ay tinitignan ng mama niya ang picture ng isang lalaki na kinamumuhian niya.

"Mom.. I'm home.." ang boses iya ay hindi na kasing sigla tulad ng kanina. Lumapit siya dito at hinalikan sa pisngi. "Kelan ba kayo magsasawang titigan ang picture na yan? How many times did I told you na ayaw ko ng makita na hinahawakan niyo yan?"

Her mother sighed before looking at her. At mas lalong nakaramdam ng inis si Sophia ng haplusin nito ang buhok niya na tila walang narinig. Her mother put the picture at the side table before heading out to the room.

Bago pa man tuluyang makaalis si Sophia ay binigyan niya ng masamang tingin ang lalaki na nasa litrato.

Every morning her mother left early for work, at iniiwanan nalang siya ng breakfast. They live in United States in South Carolina. Her mom told her that after she was born, they started to lve in that house. Her mom's name is Airee Jane, and she's working as a fashion designer from a branded clothing line.

"Sophia!" she turned her head as the girl name Katrina who is her friend called her. "I thought you're not going today?"

"Mom is not home. You know how boring to be alone in that house.."

"Oh by the way, you're still going with us right in California?"

Sandaling natahimik si Sophia bago ito tumango. Whenever she hears California, all she ever wanted is to go to that state, hindi dahil sa magagandang cliff-lined beaches at napakagandang sceneries nito kung hindi dahil gusto niyang makita ang taong laging tinititigan ng mommy niya.

Matagal na siyang nakahingi ng permission mula sa Mommy niya about going to California but unlike her friends, ibang lugar ang sinabi niya. She told her mom that they'll be going to Wisconsin. Her mother will not let her to go to California.

"You'll leave tomorrow right?" her mom asked her while they're both eating dinner. "Make sure to take care of yourself since I wasn't there.."

"You didn't even take care of me, do you?" Sophia make a grin when her mom glanced at her. "And don't forget that you'll need to attend the school meeting by next week."
