The incident was over sooner as soon as Izaya surrendered himself to the police and admitted his 'mistake'. Shinra was sent home from the hospital not long after the incident. His injury wasn't deep, but people still treated him like a severe victim. For some reason, the whole school knew about the event, and thanks to it, Izaya became infamous.
If only they knew that Izaya wasn't the real one.
Izaya himself spent less time with us ever since that. From what I heard (or eavesdropped,) Izaya continued the bet as nothing had happened. He chose it, so I had no right to stop him. I just hoped that there wouldn't any bad events happen again.
Though of it, I was grateful that he still spared his time for me, even though he seemed busy that he hardly went to the laboratory and attended his class, according to Shinra. In conclusion, everything remained the same as before.
Come to think of it, although we always got together in school, we hardly hung out on the weekend as usual students do. This idea suddenly struck me after nearly six months we became friends at that time. I wanted to make a memory outside the school with them, so I decided to ask them out on Saturday. Shinra rejected it because he had a date with his 'girlfriend', but luckily, Izaya accepted it.
By the time the day arrived, I waited for Izaya at the park. He came in on time in his casual clothes (that was the first time I saw him in different clothes besides the school uniform). Since we still had no idea where to went, we decided to stroll the park first. The air was pretty chilly at that time.
In the middle of the stroll, My eyes suddenly followed a passing yellow butterfly until it landed on a white tiny flower. It was eye-catching and mesmerizing, so I decided to take a picture of it with my phone. You could say, that was also a period of time when I gained an interest in photography, although I never saw a professional camera before. It was like a calling to me before I knew it was a real thing. The flashes seemed to catch Izaya's attention that he suddenly headed to me.
Izaya's coming caused the butterfly to fly away. I pouted.
"Why do you look unhappy like that?" Izaya raised his eyebrows. I just half laughed as I examined the picture that I took from the gallery.
"You seem to like photography, don't you?" Izaya looked at my flip phone narrowly. "Why don't you buy a camera?"
"It's expensive." I gripped my phone tightly. "And I just barely start it."
"But you have a talent. Your photos are comparable to the professional, especially the sunset from the school corridor."
"You're flattering me too mu- wait! What? How do you know I took a photo of the sunset in school? I haven't shown it to you before." My eyes squinted as I stared at Izaya cautiously.
"You need to set a password, Keiko-chan." Izaya formed a sly smile.
My mouth gagged open in surprise. "You can't just take a look on someone's phone without permission. But..." I sighed, "since you're my best friend, I guess I give you one."
I didn't know what took so long for Izaya to react. He widened his eyes as he smiled at me bitterly like I was an irony. "Keiko-chan, are you sure you want to believe in me that much?"
"Of course," I answered obviously.
"Even though I'm not a good person? I might betray you someday, or even drag you to my problem."
"That's okay." I lifted my lips edge, forming a small smile. "I can avoid it if you accidentally involved me in an incident. I'll learn how to defend myself. And if you suddenly turn my back from me, I don't care as long as I can see you. Though, stabbing from behind is not your thing."
