Zayn
"Hey, Zayn," Carter grins at me as I enter Drama. He's sitting in his chair already.
"Hey, Carter," I nod, sitting down beside him. The kid's grown on me.
"What are you doing for your holidays?" He asks, turning to me.
I slump down in my chair, shrugging. "Nothing. I'm staying here."
His eyebrows crease. "You're staying here? Why?"
"No reason," I lie. I quickly change the subject. "How about you?"
"Oh, well, I don't really do much either," he responds. "I'm going home, though."
"Where's that?"
"Leeds."
I perk up a bit. "Hey, you're not too far from me!" I cry, a bit too enthusiastically.
"Do you live in Leeds too?"
"Nah, Bradford."
He smiles. "We went to Bradford once, I really liked it."
"Don't. It's shit," I reply. "So anyway, why did you come here if you live all the way in Leeds?"
"I'd ask you the same question."
"I asked you first," I taunt.
He laughs a little. "My parents thought I'd be better in this sort of environment." His eyes fall to his lap.
For a second or two I feel total sympathy for Carter. His parents sent him here and he still gets bullied. I admit, I don't usually get along with his type of people, but Carter's alright. Once you get to know him, he's different than you think. And we actually have a lot in common.
"I came here because I was expelled from every school in Bradford," I say, hoping to enlighten things a bit by taking the focus away from Carter.
He looks up and gives a solid smile. "You did? Really?"
I nod, a little proud.
"Woah! H-How did you do it? Is that even possible?"
I file my nails. "Great skill, my friend. Great skill."
