FINAL FUCKING CHAPTER
Violet
I smile at myself, my entire body filling with a fuzzy warm feeling. I've made the right decision. I know this because I can feel the good almost radiating off me. Why didn't I think of this earlier? It's brilliant! It's the answer to everything, right here. Now Zayn can have something to look forward to, he can have a future with college in it. With me in it. Because maybe I don't want him to leave forever. Call me selfish, but I kind of just want him to stay in my life, for me. For my sake only.
My smile soon fades as, as soon as the ceremony finishes, I'm being ambushed by everyone I knew I'd be ambushed by. I'm surrounded by my parents, Niall, Zayn's entire family, Zayn himself, even Avery's here. And, of course, Liam. And they're all looking at me, clueless. I realise I now have to give them all an explanation.
"Violet, this better be a joke," my dad's the first to snap. "How could you give away such a necessity like that?"
"Sweetheart, you earned that. No one else. It's yours," mum says.
"But I-"
I'm cut off by Tricia. "We really appreciate the gesture, Violet, but are you sure?"
"Yes, I-"
Doniya cuts me off next. "Are you serious? Zayn? Don't give it to Zayn!"
"She's going to Oxford anyway," Liam says.
"I think it's cool, Vi."
"Zayn?"
I follow the conversation with my head, struggling to keep up. I look left and right as everyone just yells over top of each other, trying to get a word in. I'm confused as to why everyone's treating this like I'm giving away my soul.
"Alright, enough! HEY!" Zayn cries, spreading out his arms and making everyone quieten down. He takes a deep breath. "This is my decision, and mine only," he says carefully, breathing quickly. "You all get no say in this, so just shut up. Violet gave this to me. Which is why I'm .... not taking it."
Everyone kind of just stands still in a shocked silence, thinking it all over. My eyes go wide at Zayn's confession.
"You're what?" I shriek. He can't say no. That was never an option. He can't say no. No? No? I offered him free entry into college and he's saying no?!
Zayn's dad's the first one to speak. "Well, I think it's time to go," he says to his family. "This is a matter that doesn't need to be discussed by us."
"The man's right," my dad agrees stiffly. "It's not our problem."
"Of course it is. This is my son's future!"
"Tricia." Yaser pulls his wife back and she reluctantly obeys.
