You know that feeling where you think something bad is going to happen? You don't know what, but you know it's something? That's how I felt when I woke up this morning.
Simon was still sleeping. He probably would be sleeping for a while, considering this was his first time back in his own bed after being in an uncomfortable hotel room for so many nights.
Angelo!
Panicked, I called my mom. I was hoping that the strange feeling I had wasn't related to my baby.
"Hello?" She calmly answers.
Relief washes over me like a huge wave on the beach.
"Oh thank you so much for answering!!" I say, as if I haven't spoken to her in years.
"I know I'm not the best at answering right away but I didn't think I was that bad!" She laughs.
"I just have this weird feeling of something going wrong, and I thought that something had happened to you or Angelo."
"No worries, honey. He's still sleeping. We watched movies last night and stayed up a bit late."
I look down beside me and see Simon sleeping away. I laugh to myself. Like father, like son.
"Oh, I'm so glad he had fun."
"I think he did. I'll admit he hasn't had the healthiest diet these past few days, but it's my job to feed him junk food."
I laugh. "Yeah, I guess it is. Just make sure he eats a good breakfast at least today."
"No promises!"
We laugh.
"Well, I'm going to get dressed and I'll be right over to pick him up. Does that sound good?"
"Sure. Did..." She pauses, considering her question. "Did anything happen with Simon?"
I had forgotten that she didn't know he had come back. It feels like he's always been here.
Smiling, I say, "Yeah, he came back." I don't continue or tell her more, because I know she'll understand that's the only detail that matters.
"Oh, that's good. I'm glad everything's alright."
"Me too. I love you, mum."
"I love you too, Adele. I'll see you soon."
I couldn't wait to see my baby boy.
I'm glad everything's alright. Those words felt so good to hear.
I'm alright, I say to myself. It feels good to say it and to know that it's true.

As I am pulling out of the driveway, I realise that I didn't tell Simon I was leaving. It would probably scare him to wake up to an empty house.
So I walk back into the house and leave a note on his nightstand.
Just left to get Angelo. I didn't want to wake you. We'll be right back. Love you.
Adele xWhen I finally do pull out of the driveway and begin to drive to my mum's house, I look at my hand and see a ring on my middle finger. It's a beautiful silver band with a diamond heart in the middle. It was a Mother's Day present from Simon and Angelo. I had forgotten about it and just put it on this morning while I was getting ready.
