My heart pounds like crazy. I have never felt this way before. It's an indescribable feeling of tremendous love and excitement.
At first, I didn't think it was real. Maybe someone had written that for a different woman. But he had written my name.
With watery eyes, I looked up at Simon's anxious face. His deep blue eyes looked just like they did the moment I first looked into them.
His expression confirms that he is, for real, asking me to marry him.
When I begin to cry like a baby, he gets down on his knee and opens a box, revealing a ring.
I cry even harder when I see it. It's a beautiful diamond ring, the one I showed him in the store many months ago.
He remembered. He knew. He made sure to get the exact one I wanted.
"There has been no doubt in my mind about this. I picture my future and I see you by my side. There is nobody else I would want to spend my life with. You are so special to me, in every single way. A few years ago, I promised you that we would be together until the end of time. I will keep that promise. This is my promise. I love you, with all my heart, I love you so so much. Will you marry me, Adele?"
I am bawling. I am honored. This is so surreal. This is unbelievable.
Nearly knocking him over, I leap into his arms and hug him as tight as I possibly can.
"Yes!!!" I scream. "Yes, yes, yes!!" He wraps one arm around my waist, still on his knee with the ring in his other hand.
I step back, allowing him to slide the ring onto my ring finger. It fits perfectly. I can't believe it's mine.
I'm engaged! I'm engaged to Simon! I'm going to get married! I get to spend the rest of my life with him!
I knew eventually this day would come, but I never expected it to be this romantic and perfect. He timed it just right. He had the exact location down. He must have taken so much time and effort to plan this.
This was something not even my dreams could have thought of.
"Simon," I say, trying to sound like a normal person, but I fail. "This is so beautiful. I love you, I love you, I love you."
I would never stop saying that to him, ever.
"I love you, Adele."
He stands up, picks me up, and runs straight into the water. I scream in surprise then laugh.
Dropping me purposely, I get soaked with ocean water. But I can't get mad because I love it.
Then the sky lights up with green fireworks, my favorite color. They spell out more words. In cursive, the words "I love you" shine across the sky.
"That's for you, baby." Simon says, picking me up again and kissing my lips. I cry again.
We act like kids in the water, splashing each other, falling down, getting soaked. We must look crazy to others, but to us, we look like a dream.
It's a moment I won't ever forget. Seeing my precious baby sleeping through the whole thing made me laugh and feel so good.
So that's how the night ended. Illuminated only by the bright moon and the reflection of the water, we danced and we held each other, we kissed multiple times and kept saying "I love you." We were soaking wet when we finally tired ourselves out, and my face hurt from laughing and smiling so much. I couldn't stop staring at the ring and saying to myself that I was engaged! This was a whole new level of happiness.
I can easily call today the best day of my entire life.

On the way home, I kept marveling at the beauty of the ring and then I would look up at Simon's handsome side-profile and lose it.
It was happy tears. So many happy tears.
"I don't know how I can ever thank you enough. This night has been a dream."
Simon turned around and glanced at a sleeping Angelo.
"You've already thanked me by giving me our child."
I lose it again, for the hundredth time.
"You're perfect. This night is perfect. You have made me the happiest person in the world." I tell him through tears.
I lean over and kiss his cheek.
He turns to look me in the eye, which always melts me. He says, "We have to share that title then, because I know for sure I am the happiest person in the world."
"I guess we could share it." I laugh and then cry again.
"I love you, Simon."
"I love you too, Adele."
Angelo wakes up at the best time and chimes in, "I love you mummy and daddy."
We laugh. "We love you too, peanut." Satisfied, he drifts back off to sleep.
Then we drive into the night.
