Chapter 36

I ran after Louis. Trying to stop him from doing something disastrous which I knew he would regret later. I knew Lily was sleeping right now and I didn't want him to wake her.

I caught up to him and gripped his hand tightly from behind and he stopped. "Let go of me Lauren!" He commanded, not turning around.

I walked over to stand in front of him still clutching his hand tightly. "Louis. Please stop. Listen to me. You can't do this. Think for a moment. You're just mad. Calm down!"

His eyes blazed with anger. "Don't you dare tell me to calm down. I'll show you just how I felt when I figured Lily was my daughter. I'll just take her away from you."

My breath caught in my throat. He wouldn't really do that. Would he? He knows how much I love her. He knows it.

"Louis. We need to talk about this. We can't keep arguing like children if we want this to work. We need to sort this out like adults." I instructed.

"Want what to work?" He asked skeptically.

"Us." I whispered.

"And do you think I want us to work?"

Was he purposefully trying to anger me? I knew he wanted us to work. I ground my teeth. "Yes."

"Well you can just-"

"Shut up Louis. We need to talk about this like adults." I glared at him.

"Oh and you just sorted it out like an adult when you ran away from your problem without even listening to me and without telling me and then lying to me constantly about something which..... hell I'm sure its illegal or something." His forehead creased.

"Fuck. I did it for you god dammit." I screamed.

He raised his eyebrows, clearly not believing me. "Oh really?"

I glanced at him wearily. I hadn't ever admitted it to myself but I knew I had done it for him. I hadn't even let myself think about it. I'd convinced myself that I was doing it for myself but in the back of my mind I knew it wasn't true.

"Yes. Fucking hell yes. What would have happened if I had stayed Louis? Tell me! Your career would have been ruined. I knew how much you loved it. I knew singing was half your life. If I had stayed and when the media would have found out, your career would have been ruined. And your management would have kicked you out of their label. You know the contract they have made benefits them more than you. Your fans would have been livid. If I had stayed everything would have flipped. And do you think the guys would have been happy for you. No! They wouldn't have! You know I'm right about this Louis. You fucking know it!" I exhaled deeply.

His eyes flickered to the floor. "I love you more." He muttered.

I shook my head. "No you don't. You don't Louis. I've not always been there for you. But the music has. I know when you're sad you write down lyrics. You express your sadness and happiness into what you're singing. You turn to singing when you don't know what to do.

"And it's okay. And I know how sometimes this fame drives you insane. I know sometimes you wish that you were just a normal guy but I know you still love it. Despite the craziness, the paparazzi ruining your private life and the fans chasing after you where ever you go I know you wouldn't change it for the world." He looked up at me with admiration in his eyes when I finished.

"Marry me Lauren." He whispered.

"What?" I gasped.

"Marry me." He repeated.

I gaped at him, stunned.

He smirked suddenly. "What?" I'm sure I looked like a complete idiot. My mouth opening and closing like fish's.

"You look like you can't believe I'm asking you to marry me. Is it that surprising?" He inquired.

I stared at him wide eyed. Actually, it wasn't surprising that he proposed. What took me by surprise was the way he asked. It was so sudden. He asked at the least expected time. I shook my head. "No-no."

"Oh, then will you marry me? I'll only sort this out like adults if you agree to be my wife." He said raising his chin a bit.

"Wheres the ring?" I teased.

"What?" He looked taken aback. "Oh the ring. The engagement ring. I didn't know I would be asking you so soon to marry me. We'll have to buy it together." He composed his flustered reaction.

"I was just teasing you Louis." I stated.

"Oh. Does that mean you'll marry me?" He searched my face for an answer.

I shook my head unbelievingly at him. His cheeks flushed and he looked embarrassed. He thought I would say no? "Who in the their right mind wouldn't want to marry you Louis. Of course. Yes. Yes. I'll marry you."

A look of relief crossed his feature before his face broke into a handsome smile. He took my face between his hands and smashed his lips to mine, kissing me passionately. "Ugh, I love you so much." He murmured against my lips.

"Seriously Lou? Are you bipolar? You were so angry just a second ago, ready to sue me. And then you asked me to marry you. I'm worried." I spoke in a concerned tone.

He broke away and grinned at me evilly. I eyed him warily as he placed his hands on my shoulders and pushed me against the wall taking me by surprise.

His mouth attacked my neck. I gasped as he began sucking and biting at my skin. Ugh. He was trying to create a hickie. I moaned as he swiped his tongue across my sensitive skin. He pulled back admiring his work.

"That looks so great on you." He grinned.

"Yes. I'm sure it looks amazing." I muttered sarcastically.

His eyes were filled with lust as he gazed down at me. "I want to take you right here and right now."

"Oh. I won't let you do that until the wedding." I said and ducked from his grasp, running like a child as he chased after me.

"Stop Lauren. You know it's no good running. I'll catch you." He shouted.

I ran down the hall and into my room gasping for air. I turned quickly and pushed the door to close it but Louis stuck his foot in between the door and its frame. He pushed it so that it banged open and I ran and jumped on the bed, screaming like a child.

He eyed me and shut the door, locking it behind him.

"Stop right there or I'll scream rape." I warned Louis as he took a step closer to me.

"Thats not the only thing you would be screaming." He winked.

Okay, now he was just turning me on. I looked at him as his hands went to the rim of his shirt. He gripped it and took it off.

Holy shit....

He looked at me seductively as he let the shirt drop to the floor.

Bloody hell.

My eyes trailed over his chest and down to his well defined v-line. Damn. His muscles hadn't been this defined four years ago. Sure, they were impressing but this.. bloody hell.

I was panting already. "Wait. Wait Louis. We need to talk about everything first."

I didn't know why I was trying to avoid this.

"Seriously? What do you want to talk about?" He advanced towards the bed. I took a step back, my ankle suddenly twisted making me fall backwards onto the bed.

"Shit." I cursed as pain shot through me.

Louis jumped onto the bed and sat down on me, straddling my waist. His hands on either sides of my head. He leaned down, his nose touching mine.

"Are you okay?" He asked me.

The pain was subsiding drastically. I just felt it at the time when I had twisted my ankle, not quite so anymore. "Yes." I breathed.

"So what do you want to talk about?" He asked again.

"Everything. Everything that has happened?" I made it sound more like a question than a statement.

"Lauren, there is nothing much to talk about. We'll tell Lily I'm her father and everyone else that we're getting married. As simple as that."

Oh. "You make it sound so uncomplicated." Now that he did say that I realized he was right. There was nothing else to talk about. Everything suddenly seemed so easy. Life didn't seem so unfair anymore. A huge weight lifted from my shoulders and I felt so light. Like I could be happy again.

"It is uncomplicated." Said Louis.

I nodded. "You're right."

"Of course I am." He murmured, his lips brushing mine slightly.

When I nodded my head stupidly he pressed his lips onto mine, kissing me. "But what about-"

"Seriously Lauren? What's wrong?" He pulled away and stared into my eyes.

"Uh...nothing. Nothing's wrong. I..everything is fine." I stuttered.

"You know you can tell me anything or talk to me about everything."

"Err, it's just that I haven't...well, I haven't had sex in four years and I-" I blushed.

Louis cocked his head to the side. "Seriously? Are you really worried about that?"

I knew I was as red as a tomato. "Well..." I trailed off.

"Don't be." He muttered and he had already hooked his hands inside my shirt and was about to pull it off but the pounding on the door made him stop.

"This is no time to fuck. Open the god damned door." Ari shouted.

I looked at Louis. "Should we ignore her?" He asked me.

"Lauren. You guys woke Lily when you were screaming and shouting and now she wants to see you and you better come and say sorry to her for ignoring her because of Louis." She knocked on the door again loudly.

"You haven't talked to Lily in 6 days?" He asked shocked.

I nodded shamefully.

"Then get up." He got up and pulled me off the bed with him. He picked the shirt from the floor and put it on. I went to the door and opened it.

Ari was standing there with one hand on her hip. "I'm going to pretend that I don't know what you were just about to do in a house with a child who is wide awake and was outside this door just now."

"Crap. Where is she?" I asked.

"Downstairs. Watching tv."

I nodded and ran towards the stairs descending them two at a time, Louis following me.

I stopped when I saw Lily. Though the tv was switched on she wasn't paying attention to it. She was sitting on the couch, her legs crossed and she was crying softly.

Fuck. No.

I ran to her and scooped her in my arms. "Lily? Are you okay? What's wrong. Why are you crying?" I cooed, my heart breaking at the sight of her crying.

She hid her face in my neck but didn't reply.

"Lily. Come to me." Louis spoke. I turned around and looked at him. He was holding his hands out to me. Lily peeked at him and I gave her over to him. "What's wrong Lily?" He asked when she was safely in his arms.

"Mommy do not love me." she sobbed.

Oh no. "Lily. Of course I do. I love you more than anyone on this whole planet." I kissed her on the cheek.

"Mommy like uncle Louis more." She whispered in her angelic voice.

Where did she get that from? Louis looked at me over Lily's head.

"Lily. You wanted a daddy right?" She looked up at Louis as he said that and nodded. "I'm your dad. You have a daddy." He was looking at her with a worried expression, like she wasn't going to accept him.

Lily looked at me and I nodded. She turned back to Louis. "Daddy." She said and Louis smiled. He kissed her on the cheek and I could see the love he felt for her reflect in his eyes. He was going to love her and take care of her more than any father. I just knew it.

In that instant I knew I had gotten my happiness back. I had a family. A loving boyfriend- actually fiancé- and the most beautiful daughter. I knew I wouldn't need anything more than this. I was finally happy again and I knew we would argue here and there because seriously, no couple is actually perfect.

"Come here." Louis said and when I was standing right in front of him and Lily he wrapped one hand around me and I wrapped both my hands around him. Lily looked up at me from her spot in between both of us.

"I love you Lily."

"I too love you mummy." She smiled.

I turned to Louis. "I love you." We said in unison.

I couldn't be happier.
