I stared at the Egg for a few minutes, disbelief rushing through my mind as the time passed. Could I really have followed some ancient instinct straight to a real dragon egg? I had heard the stories but it felt different to actually live it. I filled with excitement at the as my mind began racing with the possible implications on finding this egg. My whole life had changed; I knew that nothing would ever be the same. I needed to get down there, my instincts pulled in the direction of the egg, like invisible rope tied around my consciousness.

I began scanning the edges of the crater looking for a suitable way down. In every direction around the hole there was about a twenty foot drop to the bottom with no visible way of getting back up, the sides were crumbling and looked unstable. I sat down near the edge overlooking the crater, beginning to feel discouraged. I needed some more time to come up with a safe plan, but with each minute that passed the pull was harder.

After another hour or so I had confirmed that there was no way down aside from jumping, but I had no idea how I would get back up. If everything goes according to plan it would be on the back of a Dragon, but that is a large uncertainty.

Until suddenly it wasn't, sureness washed over me from somewhere within my mind. It was as if it had come from another source, I couldn't remember a thing I was surer of in my life. I knew that I would be able to get back up.

I looked around and found what seemed to be the safest spot and simply jumped down. I landed flatfooted, slightly bending my knees and was finally in the crater. I began to walk forward then stopped and thought for a moment. I just dropped around twenty feet in the air as if I were jumping off a small rock. How was it that I wasn't harmed?

Again the answer came from deep within my mind. It was because I was a Dragon Rider now, or would be a Dragon Rider. I naturally had the ability to land from high places without being harmed. It is to help if I should fall from my Dragon while high in the air. I thought back through my life and couldn't think of a time I had ever been hurt by falling, I had never paid attention before.

More uncertain was the question of where these answers were coming from. Why is it that I all of the sudden know things I previously had no knowledge of? It felt more and more different as time passed, I was becoming not myself. I was switching in and out of a feeling of concern and acceptance.

I broke from my musings when I realized I had subconsciously started walking over to the Dragon Egg. I got within ten feet of it and saw how stunning it was in person. It was roughly the size of a cow, but oval and had the texture of coal. The shell was a dark black color. The color of pure charcoal and had the matte finish. The shell had a thin rough honeycomb pattern across the entire Egg, the shapes weren't perfect but close. The lines separating the combs were a bright purple color that in the shade was giving off a faint light. Where did this egg come from, and how had no one else seen it?

I reached forward with my hand and placed it on the shell. I could feel the heart beating within, the beats speed increasing with my touch. I pulled my hand back and began to walk around the shell looking it over, taking in every detail of this amazing experience.

While studying the Egg I realized I had no idea of what to do next. Do I sit on it? Do I crack it open myself? Unfortunately my newfound inner wisdom was not lending me any hints this time. I decided to leave it alone while I figure out how to survive out here.

First things first, I need to make a shelter of some sort since I have no idea how long it will be until the egg hatches. As I sat there and planned my situation finally dawned on me. I was going to attempt to hatch a Dragon egg. This new realization fueled me with drive and purpose. I was going to bring this Dragon into the world.
