Gwen's POV
I sat in the passenger seat in Peter's car, lost in thought. I still had to idea as to why Peter was being so kind towards me. I mean, sure people were nice, but no one was this nice.
Sighing, I leaned against the window and thought back to last night.
*Flashback*
I sat in my hospital bed, a book in my hands, but I coulnd't bring myself to actually read the words on the page, my mind was elsewhere. My mom sat in the chair next to me, quietly reading a magazine my brothers must have brought her.
Not being able to take it anymore, I couldn't stop myself from blurting out and asking, "Mom, where's Dad?"
She looked up abruptingly at me, and her eyes turned glassy, "Wh-what do you mean?"
"Where is he? He hasn't been to see me since I was put in the hospital," I responded.
She wipes at her eyes, "You don't remember?"
I shake my head slowly, to which she shakingly responds, "He, um..got in an accident. There was a disruption in the city, and he went to go help." She looked down, "He didn't make it back."
I sat back in the bed as I slowly began to cry.
Why was this happening? Why was it always have to be my family?
No other words were exchange between my mother and I for the rest of the night.
*End of flashback*
I pressed my forehead against the window as tears blurred my eyes, trying to hide my emotions. But he must have noticed something, for he tentively asked, "Gwen, is something wrong?"
Not facing him, I mumbled, "I'm fine."
