Six

I stir to the sound of an alarm ringing through the castle and slowly open my eyes and groan when a horrible pain pounds through my head. I go to feel the side of my head but my wrists are tied behind my back. I wiggle my wrists to try and get them out but just the slightest movement pulses into my head and it makes me want to scream in pain.

I look around the room. I’m in Kianna’s room. Sitting in front of the bed and, my eyes widen. Pierre’s standing in front of me with a sad look on his face.

“I’m sorry Alana, but you brought this on yourself.” He says while sitting down and crossing his legs.

I look at him with eyes that are probably portraying my emotions. Fear, anger, pain. “How did you figure it out?” I ask, my throat hurting. How long I have been out for? I need water.

He shows me his palms. “I didn’t. J did and then recruited me.”

I tilt my head a little and instantly regret it. “Who’s J?”

He shakes his head. “I’m sorry Alana but I can’t tell you that.”

I close my eyes. The alarm doesn’t help my head. I lean my head against the bed and feel myself starting to get drowsy again. I hear my voice but it’s like i’m talking through a tunnel with my voice on one side and me on the other, “why are the alarms going off?”

I hear the concern in his voice. “Alana, hey, Alana, look at me. Open your eyes,” my eyes flutter open and he lets out a relieved sigh, “the alarms are going off because no one could find you. It’s five.”

I swallow to try and get my throat to not be parched. Five. I’ve been out for five hours? I feel something wet slide down the side of my neck and by the alarmed look on Pierre’s face I know it’s not good. He stands up while muttering, “I didn’t hit you that hard.”

Huh. Close to the same thing I said about Kianna when I killed her. I watch as Pierre walks into the bathroom and comes out with a white towel. He crouches in front of me and holds it to the side of my head and I wince. In a couple minutes he removes the towel and an alarm goes through my head. Oh god, oh god. Blood. Half the towel is covered in blood.

I struggle to remember what happened before I passed out but nothing comes to me. I look at Pierre with a terror stricken face and he strokes my cheek. He leans into my ear, “you know, I only did this because I thought I could save you from him.”

I close my eyes and whisper, “why would you want to save me?”
