"We're going to 'Fairstone' you don't need ID to get in." Ashton informed me as we walked down an almost empty street.
I simply just nodded lacking an idea for a start of a conversation. I didn't know Ashton that well. He'd been friends with Luke for the past two years but I never really had any encounters with him. There was one year in geography, we were teacher paired partners on a field study project. We only really talked to take samples of mud but our conversations never extended out of that classroom. I didn't have anything against him, he was never rude to me or anyone I knew. He was different than Luke, smarter, kinder. I think his friendship with Luke had, in a way, changed him, I couldn't put my finger on what it was however."How's that song you were writing coming along Calum?" Luke snapped me out of my thoughts. I hadn't really spoken to any of them about the forming of a band since I gave Luke their numbers. I didn't even know they were writing.
"Yeah it's coming. I was kinda lost for a bit. Didn't have any inspiration but after a while I think I found it." Calum marvelled.
"So what was your inspiration?" I asked chiming in. I was rather curious to find out what type of songs he was writing mainly because I didn't know he could write.
"A girl." Calum whispered shyly. His cheeks became a rose colour and his eyes were glued to the ground.
"Ah Cal. Who is it?" Luke chirped
"Doesn't matter." He shrugged.
"Calum Thomas Hood!" Luke came to a halt "I demanded an answer. I will not sing a song if I don't know whom it's about!"
"Oh for gods sake you're such a whiner." Calum threw his hands in the air exhaling loudly
"I wear that title proudly." Luke declared
"Come here." Calum yanked Luke's arm and dragged him across the road.
"So many secrets." Ashton frowned "gtg I'll be back before you can say 'Ashton has the cutest hair and most perfect teeth.' " he quickly raced across the road to stand and hear the secret with his two friends.
I huffed slightly before yelling " Ashton has the cutest and most perfect teeth!"
Ashton giggled and yelled back "I'm flattered Keira but I must decline your coming onto me."
I blushed "screw you, you bandana wearing cunt."
"You obviously can't handle rejection." He joked
I flipped him off before sliding my phone from my pocket. 12 missed calls from mom . 2 missed calls from dad. 1 missed call from cam and one text from Alec.
A: Hey!¡ you might wanna call mom she thinks you're dead. (She didn't like the fact I dibsed your room btw)
"Ugh" I groaned finding my mothers number. I took in a sharp breath as I heard the final ring.
"KEIRA WHERE ARE YOU? WHY HAVENT YOU TEXTED AT LEAST? WHY ARENT YOU SPEAKING. NO WAIT THIS IS A RANSOM CALL ISNT IT? PLEASE DONT HURT MY DAUGHTER."
"MOM! I'm fine this is not my kidnapper." Why was this woman so insane? I should have bought her a bouncy house it would have helped her jump to conclusions faster.
"Oh for the love of Billy Joel."
"Billy who-?"
"Honestly Keira you are so grounded. You are not leaving the house ever apart from school and extra circular activities!" She croaked
"My phone was on silent because I was in a cinema." I divulged.
"Oh right sorry I forgot." She sounded defeated.
"It's cool. Anyway I'm not going to be home till late I'm out with Calum and" I stopped myself. My mother knows and trusts Calum she is less likely to demand me to come home knowing I'm with a responsible person and I use that term very loosely. "Yep me and Cal Pal are gonna go grab a McDonalds."
"Calum Hood?" She inquired
"No Calum my old piano teacher. Yes Calum Hood."
"Alright that's fine. He's such a nice young lad. Good cheekbones. Structured jaw. Wait one second dear." I was sure she moved the phone away from her face but her shouting to my sister could be heard as though she moved it closer."Cameron is Calum Hood still in your math class? Ah knew he was. Have you still got that crush on him Sweetheart?" By the volume of my mothers voice I was slightly surprised the boy himself couldn't hear.
"Anyway mom I'm gonna go. I'll text you when I'm on my way home. Love you" I murmured.
"Goodbye honey." I hung up the phone and placed it back in my pocket.
"So are you guys gonna stand there gossiping or...?" I called out to the three boys
"You know you love me xoxo" Luke screeched
"I'm worried about your mental health." I joked
"So you worry about me?" He wiggled his eyebrows as he crossed the road to stand with me.
"You're soooooo witty."
"Well I suppose there is more to me than my boyish good looks and charm." He smirked
"You're something else that's for sure." I admitted
"Something else is good though."
"Yeah, I suppose it is." I nodded.
Ashton and Calum quickly joined us.
"Let's go get wasted!" Ashton screamed
"Let's go and attempt to get wasted and get turned away cause we're under age!" I replied in a false enthusiastic tone.
"You're such a pessimist." Calum divulged
"Realist." I replied. I had always believed there was no point in being completely blinded in optimistic thoughts. A key example of this was when I was a kid. I never believed in Santa. Yes how sad and depressing a kid that doesn't believe, I could sell my story to any kids Christmas film maker. When all the other kids sat writing their letters in class I sat trying to show them the reality of the situation. It was impossible to do what he does and why would he leave out the kids that needed the hope of Santa the most? It baffled me that my peers were so blind to the truth. I didn't want to get my hopes up just to get them let down and I was glad that I learnt it at a young age instead of becoming a naive adult.
"Calm it iggy." Ashton chuckled.
"We should at least try?" Calum suggested.
"There is no harm in trying just don't let your sober asses come crying to me. I will say I told you so." I smiled.
"Leggo." Luke pointed forwards indicating for us to walk on.
Ashton and Calum walked in front while I walked behind with Luke.
"You know there's nothing wrong with being a realist as long as it doesn't stop you from chasing your dreams." He blurted
"At least you get it. You haven't stopped chasing your dreams, like forming a band or me." It was my turn to make a Luke comment.
"Well at the beginning of the year my dream of forming a band felt like it was over before it began." The blonde boy winked.
"You're a dick. Can't you at least let me have the last comment?" I sighed.
"Nah we wouldn't get to flirt if I did."
