2004

The recording of the Say You Will album had been a horrible experience for Stevie. She and Lindsey were at each other's throats through the entire process.
The tour however, had been a smoother experience for all band members of Fleetwood Mac.
Stevie and Lindsey had become closer again and, they had rekindled their friendship and she even had become friends with Lindsey's wife Kristen. And his children began to refer to her as aunt Stevie.

It had been a few weeks since the end of the Say You Will tour. And Stevie had a lot on her mind after she had a checkup with her doctor.
Stevie was 56 years old and had yet gone through menopause; although her doctor had said her body was in the process of going through it. It was rare for women to go through menopause so late in life but here she was still having to go through it, although Stevie's cycles weren't every month like she used to have. Now she would have maybe two or three cycles a year since she turned fifty.

Stevie had said before in interviews that she didn't want children throughout the years but now she was beginning to have "baby fever". That's all she could think about; she wanted a baby.

After much discussion with her doctor, they both came to an agreement that Stevie would not be the one to carry her child. Her doctor advised her that it would be safer to use a surrogate to carry the baby for her, which Stevie agreed.
Sure she would love to be the one to experience the pregnancy but she didn't want to risk her baby's life in case she wouldn't be able to carry it to term.

Her doctor had suggested some medication to help with the increase of her egg production before it was too late that way they would be able to use her own eggs and the baby would be biologically hers. But had pressed for her to keep in mind that there may be less eggs to collect because of her age.

It had been two weeks since she began taking the medication and Stevie had only told two people about her plans to become a mother; Karen, her assistant and her mother Barbara. Stevie didn't want to tell everyone else just yet, she wanted to wait till it was a done deal; meaning she wanted the surrogate to be in her second trimester before making the announcement.

Stevie was at her L.A. home on a Friday evening cooking dinner. She had invited Lindsey and Kristen with their children to come over. She had given Karen the night off and was home alone.

She had just put in what she was serving into the oven when she heard the doorbell. She looked at the clock, and was confused, Lindsey was early she thought to herself.

Stevie answered the door and was surprised to see who was standing behind the door.
"Hi." She said with uncertainty.
"Hey Stevie...can...I come in?" The man slurred.
"Listen, I'm sorry but this is a bad time. I'm having guests over soon and..." She said before he pressed on.
"Please Stevie! I have no where else to go! My wife...kicked me out. We...been having problems. Please." He pleaded.
Stevie sighed. "Alright, come in."
He walked through the door and she led him to the living room. "I'm sorry but I'm in the middle of cooking dinner. Why don't you go to one of the guest bedrooms for the night and sleep it off. We can talk tomorrow." She said sternly knowing how drunk he was.
He nodded. "Can...I stay down here with you till your company arrives? Please, then I'll go and leave you alone for the rest of the night."
"Okay, follow me to the kitchen then. I still need to make the salad." Stevie said leading the way to the kitchen.

Stevie made him a cup of coffee to sober him up a bit then she continued to get things ready for dinner.
She asked him about what was going on and he told all about his crumbling marriage. He and his wife were on the brink of divorce; they both cheated on each other trying to get back at the other. His two children were caught in the middle; they watched some of their most heated arguments. The part he had left out was that when he would get drunk and they were in the middle of an argument, he would hit her.

Stevie took all of this information in; she couldn't believe it. They had always seemed like the perfect couple, the perfect family.

After a few moments, Stevie continued with her task and began to place the plates and silverware on the dining room table.
Her back was turned from the kitchen; suddenly she felt arms wrap around her waist. She was startled and she gasped, not expecting it.
"What are you doing?" She asked unwrapping his arms from around her. She stepped back away from him.
"Come on Stevie. I'm lonely...I need you." He said still slightly slurring.
Stevie shook her head. "No! Absolutely not."
He stepped closer to her. "Stevie, it not like we haven't been together before."
"That was years ago when we were a couple. Way before you met your wife." Stevie said becoming angry. "You should leave."
"No! Don't kick me out!" He exclaimed and hugged her in a tight hug. "I'm sorry, I just..."

He stopped talking and kissed her lips.
Stevie instantly pushed him away. "Leave! Right now!"
But he wasn't listening. He lunged at her again and began to pull at her clothes. He tore her blouse and groped her breasts.
Fear ran through Stevie's veins. She tried to push him away again but he was too strong.
"Stop! Damn it stop!" She yelled as she began to hit his face, scratching him a few times in the process.
He grabbed her hands and pinned them to her side and he continued to kiss her lips and neck.
Stevie used all her strength to kick him, he doubled over for a second but in his drunken rage he quickly recovered and grabbed her wrist and pulled back towards him.
He slapped her across her face causing her a cut lip.
Stevie was sobbing uncontrollably.

The man then turned around and he quickly cleared the table of the plates and silverware. Everything crashing and breaking onto the floor.
He bent her over the table, pinning her hands behind her back; he pulled down her tights and panties in one swift motion.
"Stop! No! Don't do this!!!! Please...don't..." She yelled again but then cried out in pain as it was too late.
He entered her and quickly began to thrust into her vigorously.
Stevie's tears were streaming down her face, her whole body shaking from the pain and the shock of what was actually happening.

"Oh Stevie...you're so fucking tight! Oh fuck!" He said as he continued to thrust.
Stevie didn't say anything; her cheek pressed against the table top. She shut her eyes tight and continued to sob, waiting for it to be over.
After what felt like an eternity, he finally grunted and moaned one final time as he released himself into her.
He fell onto her, pressing his forehead to her back.

After a few seconds, he pull out of her, letting her go and he put himself away back into his jeans.
Stevie slumped to the floor and curled into a ball.

It seemed to have sobered him up a bit and he realized what he had done. He stared wide eyed at Stevie sobbing on the floor; she was close to hyperventilating.
He quickly turned and rushed out her front door.
He got into his car and pulled out of her driveway and sped away.

Lindsey drove to Stevie's home; their oldest child William, was excitedly telling them about his school day.

Lindsey slowed down as he drove closer to Stevie's driveway. Kristen and Lindsey saw a car speeding away from Stevie's.
They both looked at each other; Lindsey waited for the car to drive out of sight then quickly turned into the driveway.
Lindsey placed the car in park and noticed the front door was wide open.
"Stay here with the kids and lock the door. Something is not right." He told Kristen. "I'll be back."
"Be careful." Kristen said worriedly. "I hope Stevie is okay."

Lindsey walked through the front door and heard heart wrenching sobs.
