"Ms. Nicks?" Dr. Thompson said. "Sorry to wake you but we are here to do the ultrasound."
Stevie covered her mouth and gave a small yawn. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize I dozed off." She sat up a bit and turned her attention to her doctor."Alright, I'm going to need to lift up your hospital gown please."
Stevie did as she was asked and lifted up the gown just enough to reveal her belly. She was still covered by a blanket from her waist down and her gown covered her chest.Dr. Thompson squeezed a type of gel used to help move the transducer around; Stevie felt nervous, she still felt conflicted about whether she should continue with the pregnancy or terminate.
Dr. Thompson began to move the transducer around and examined the screen which was pointed away from Stevie.
"You're measuring around seven maybe eight weeks." The doctor said.
Stevie sighed. "Yes, that's about right. How...is the baby doing? Is it alright?"
"Everything seems to be going well. The pain you experienced was your body's way of giving you a warning to take better care of yourself. That's if you do continue with the pregnancy." Dr. Thompson said.
"Can...I see?" Stevie asked finally curious.
Dr. Thompson was hesitant but finally turned the screen so Stevie could see.Tears filled her eyes as she saw it; her tiny baby the size of a blueberry. Finally her tears spilled over and rolled down her cheeks.
"It's so tiny! Can I hear the heartbeat? Please!"
Dr. Thompson turned a small knob then the room was filled with the most beautiful sound that Stevie had ever heard. At that moment, all her fears and concerns melted away.Dr. Thompson knew where this was headed, so he took some stills to print out for Stevie knowing she would want them.
After, the doctor gave Stevie some napkins to wipe off her belly, then she pulled down her gown."Well, Ms. Nicks, I take it you will be continuing with this pregnancy?"
Stevie smiled with happy tears in her eyes and said. "Yes! I know it's not going to be easy and no I don't know what I'm getting myself into but...I love this baby so much already! I will do anything for them."Dr. Thompson couldn't help but smile back. He took a seat next her bed and said. "Okay, first things first, like you said, it will not be easy. I'm going to want to see you once a week until your second trimester then we'll maybe switch to every two weeks. I'm going to prescribe you some prenatal vitamins and some extra medications to help with hormones and such. I'll go write that up right now and have it rushed that way when I release you in a few hours they'll be ready. Also, try to keep your stress levels low and get plenty of rest."
Stevie nodded her head as the nurse walked back into the room from bringing the ultrasound photos.
Stevie was left alone then and turned on her side once more facing away from the door. She had a genuine smile on her face as she stared at the photos in her hand while the other was resting on her belly. There was knock on the door; Stevie told whoever it was to come in.
It was her bandmates; she smiled at them.
Lindsey walked up to her first and said. "I'm happy to see you smiling again angel!"
He leaned in a kissed her cheek.
"I...I'm still not over what Don did to me but..." She bit back tears and stroked her belly. "For this little one I'm going to try to move on. I need to be strong for him or her."
Christine walked over and said. "So...you're going to..."
"Yes, I'm going to have this baby." Stevie answered before Christine could finish her question. "I'm not going to lie...I'm terrified and well, I wish I could have had the choice of a different....donor..." Stevie sighed then went on. "But I already love this baby so much. Look!"
Stevie held out the ultrasound photos for all of them to see. They took turns looking at the photos; they were both happy and worried for Stevie. They talked for a few more minutes and Lindsey told her about what happened at the police station. Stevie breathed a sigh of relief that she didn't have to go through a trial especially now, she definitely didn't need the added stress.
