The Next Damn Morning
Jade's POV
I wake up to knocking on the hotel room door. I stretch and lazily get up thinking it's Dirk or Jake trying to wake me and Dave up. I put my glasses and some clothes on and stumble my way to the door. The knocking ceases as I open the door. To my surprise I find no one there. I look up and down both hallways but there's no one in sight. While looking I spot a red box in front of the door. I pick it up carefully and there's a note taped to the top. It looks like it's written in some foreign language. I carry the box inside, closing the door quietly, trying not to wake up Dave. I proceed to sit on the bed and examine the box. I flip it over and around. There's an opening on the bottom, enough to fit your head or something through and there are some weird glowing, flashing lights on the side. I place the box on the nightstand and go into the bathroom. I'm sure one of the idiots I'm travelling with will know what it is. I brush my hair, trying to appear nice from the long uncomfortable road trip. We never seem to have the time to just relax for a weekend, except for the casino place. It like sucked a weeks time when Dave and Dirk were there and they didn't even notice. We talked about it in the car and Dave said it felt like they were there for only a few hours. Something didn't feel right about that place, I'm glad we left. I finish brushing my hair and walk out the bathroom to find Dave holding the box. He turns to me with a serious demeanor.
"Where did you get this?"
"Somebody left it outside our door. I just brought it inside thinking someone left it there as a gift or something. I was wondering if you knew what it is and if you could tell me about it. There's also a note on one of the sides that I can't read."
He sets the box down and sighs.
"Is something wrong Dave?"
"At all costs do not tell Dirk about that fucking box."
I look at Dave strangely and pick up the box and examine it more. "Why? It doesn't seem dangerous or anything. It's just a box."
He snatches it out of my hands and hisses. "Don't you go and touch the box either."
"But Dave I don't understand. It's just a box."
"It's not just a box!" Dave yells at me. He sighs again and shakes his head. "I'll explain later."
I cross my arms and pout. "Dave you always say that and then you rarely tell me anything! What's wrong with the stupid box."
"Fine, I guess you have the right to know. This box caused a lot of trouble for Dirk years ago, and I'm talking years ago, but it would be in our best interest not to let him remember those times."
"What happened?"
Dave laughs nervously. "To tell you the truth I don't know. I was young and I just remember that one day Dirk found a red box and he told me about it. It was supposed to teleport things. From then on after the box something changed in him. He was sad and angry all the time. A month later he wouldn't even come out of his room. In the end of everything our friends got killed and Dirk thought it was his fault they died." Dave hesitates. "T-that's when . . .that's all I remember."
I sit there, contemplating what Dave said. I still don't get what that has to do with the box, I mean obviously something had to happen with the box. I don't think Dave is telling me the whole story but if he doesn't want to he doesn't have to.
"Okay Dave, I won't tell Dirk about the box."
He makes a sigh of relief and hugs me. "Thanks Jade."
Dave gets dressed and we head out of the room and we go over to Dirk and Jake's room. Dave knocks on the door and after a few knocks he kicks it open.
