Jake's POV

I head outside my little hideout and sip on my cup of tea. It was really good tea. I'm glad I brought it along on the hunting trip. There were a fuck ton of imps all around the forest and people were starting to complain about it in the town a bit aways north of here, so naturally I had to check it out. Now I'm waiting for karkat and his team to come back. Oh I think I see him now.

"Hey karkat-" I stop talking once I notice how bloodied he is and get up, running over to him. "What the hell happened to you? Where's the rest of your group?"

"THAT FUCKASS AIN'T DEAD! ALSO DID I MENTION HE'S A DAMN FUCKASS!"

"What are you talking about?! Who's not dead?"

"THAT BITCH ASS STRIDER GUY! DIRK FUCKING STRIDER! HE'S STILL DAMN ALIVE AND APPARENTLY HE'S STILL STRONG AS HELL BUT HE'LL BE DEAD SOON! WHEN I GET TO HIM OOOH HE'LL BE WISHING HE NEVER MESSED WITH KARKAT VANTAS!" He screams in the air as he swings his sickle into a tree. I didn't even know you could piss him off even more than he usually was. But then I realize what he said.

"Wait? Dirk strider, the ruler of demons, possibly our sworn enemy, who was said to be dead a couple years ago, IS ALIVE?!"

Karkat repeated that Dirk Strider is alive. I shake my head. "You must be mistaken. I saw him die." I've been hunting foul creatures like Dirk ever since I was able to shoot a gun. Within all that time I had never once seen or heard of a demon being able to come back from the dead.

"ARE YOU SUGGESTING THAT I'M LYING?!" He points his sickle near my throat. Even though I know he wouldn't kill me, I'd rather not start a fight with him. "No Karkat, all I'm saying is that I saw Strider dead. And if you actually fought him you'd probably be in a grave. It may have looked like him but in reality it wasn't."

Karkat rolls his eyes. "SINCE YOU WON'T BELIEVE ME, FUCKASS, I'LL SHOW YOU RIGHT TO HIM!" Karkat walks back into the forest then turns around and looks at me with this annoyed glare.

"I'd rather stay here, relax, and have my mid-day tea. You can show me tomorrow."

"FINE THEN I'LL BRING HIS HEAD BACK TO YOU AND THEN YOU'LL BE LIKE 'OH GOOD FUCKING JOB KARKAT, I SHOULD'VE LISTENED TO YOU BUT I'M SO FUCKING COCKY AND STUPID AS SHIT THAT YOU HAD TO PROVE ME WRONG!" He walks deeper in the forest. I yell out to him, whoever or whatever he fought, he was going to get his ass beat by it again, and with all the imps around it would mean risking his life. Even if he was an asshole I didn't want him to die. "Karkat come back here and rest! I'll take a bloody look okay?"

"Good, shit head." Karkat comes back with an even more annoyed look.

In a few hours I had prepared myself to fight the supposed Strider and Karkat drew a map with the route to where his group found the log cabin.

I walk through the dense forest, picking off imps as I went along. I have a job to do, even with this little interruption, I was still going to get it done. I should've taken Jade with me on this trip. She needed the experience and her being left alone worries me, what if something happens while I'm gone? No she'll be okay, she knows how to fight. If I ever suggested to take her with me to Jane, Jane would've disagreed. She thought hunting was a bit extreme and too dangerous, even till the day she died. Maybe she was right.

Time Skip

After an hour of searching and following Karkat's terrible map, I find the cabin. It was quite a shit cabin but if someone's desperate I guess it would work. If that demon scum did stay in this place I'm sure he would make it nicer on the inside, in hell I had heard, while snooping around, that he was more a prince of fashion than the actual ruler of them. I didn't understand it though since he's not a prince and he only rules a small part of hell. No hunter knows who really rules hell since they're always in the shadows.
