Young Justice: Assault on Arkham City

Chapter 2: Chaos Throughout Gotham

Arkham City.
July 4, 7:59pm EST.
(3rd Person POV)
events were now in place and nothing could stop the oncoming situation from taking place, the City of Gotham is about to change and that change will rock the city to its very core.
8:00pm Clocks around Gotham now read and the ground rumbled as an explosion erupted from the Arkham City Substation, the power supply to the prison facility being cut and the local area blacking out,
' I have breaking news from Arkham Cit-' Viki Vale was about to announce when another explosion could be heard across the bridge leading to Arkham City more of Gotham began being plunged into darkness.

Gotham City.
Four more explosions rocked the city each one plunging more and more of the city into darkness, a darkness that no one could escape, the Metro - Narrows Bridge went into emergency mode, all subway trains and Skyrail trains stopped where ever they were, traffic lights failed leading to car accidents all over the city.

The Gotham City Flyover Bridge couldn't lower to road level so people were stuck literally within the city with no escape and to make matters worse the gates to Arkham City had no power and the emergency power generator hadn't kicked in yet, meaning that they were now opened and the recently admitted inmates were now running for the exit to the super prison.

The GCPD arrived at key locations around the city but soon found it a challenge to keep the people from rioting and the escaped criminals from harming the innocent so they called upon the help of the Bludhaven Police Department in their time of crisis and as a result Gotham City was officially put into lockdown for the safety of not only its citizens but for the safety of people travelling towards the city and people and townships nearby. Tonight was going to be a long night and Jim Gordon knew that for a fact, his only hope was that  Batman would appear soon. to help snuff the fuelling chaos on the streets.

Wayne Manor.
8:20pm EST
(Dick's POV)
The power had gone out 20 minutes ago after what sounded like a few explosions going off and Alfred had gone to activate the backup generator and so as we sat waiting to hear what had happened  the door to the living room opened and  Bruce walked through,
"we have an emergency" he says
"what's the problem?" I ask
"Gotham's had an unexpected power grid failure and Arkham City is currently spilling recently arrived inmates onto the streets" Bruce explains
"what about the major inmates?" I ask
"from what I can tell, Joker, Riddler, Scarecrow, Clayface, Two - face, Killer Croc and Mr Freeze and the other rogues are all still within the compound" Bruce answers and I give him a confused look
"why would they remain behind?" Wally asks
"I don't know, i'm about to head to Arkham City to find out for myself" Bruce says
"want me to come with?" I ask
"that's up to you, I just wanted to inform you about the situation" Bruce answers
"i'll go get ready" I say sitting up and heading for the grand father clock elevator that leads to the Batcave .

(Bruce's POV)
Once Dick was out of hearing range I turned to the others as they looked up at me waiting for what I had to say to them, I could tell that they were nervous as it was well known that I'm not the best person to talk to on most occasions,
"you two can come with us" I say to them which by the looks on their faces, shocks them
"are you sure?" Wally asks
"we need all the help we can get" I answer
" are Barry and Oliver ok with this?" Roy asks
"I'm about to call them to assist us, Kid Flash and Flash are the only metahumans i'll allow to operate in Gotham" I explain
"lucky we brought spare suits then" Wally says standing up
"what makes you think I brought my costume?" Roy questions
"oh really?" Wally remarks, crossing his arms and arching an eyebrow
"fine, I did bring it, lets just go and get changed" Roy says before they both make their way out of the room and head towards the Batcave to get changed.

I look over and notice that Jason is the only one left and so i turn to him and he looks up at me as if he's expecting something from me,
"you want me there to?" he asks
"I need everyone I can get" I answer
"i'll go get changed then, but the Batmobile won't fit all of us" Jason says
"that's why both you and Dick have Bikes" I answer
"alright, alright i'm going to get ready now" he says walking off to the Batcave as I follow behind to head to the computer monitors to look over the situation at hand in Gotham and call Green Arrow and the Flash.

As the boys were getting ready I made my way back down to the Batcave and to the computer monitor hub to first call the Flash and Green Arrow,
"Batman to Watchtower" I say activating a video call
"what's up Bats?" Flash says answering the call
"I need you and Green Arrow to meet Robin, Red Hood, Red Arrow, Kid Flash and I near Arkham City" I answer
"Arkham City, Bats that's all over the news right now, what's happening?" Flash asks
"i'll explain once we're there, now make it quick" I say ending the call at the same time Dick, Wally and Roy come into the room dressed in their hero gear, I bring up a map of Gotham and a red zone showing where Arkham City is located, taking a look I can see multiple crimes occurring just about everywhere around the city from Uptown Gotham to Downtown Gotham and everywhere in between, this city was descending into chaos and the centre of it all was Arkham City, after looking at the map I turn towards Dick, Wally and Roy, 
"right let's head out, we don't have time to waste" I say making my way over to the Batmobile and unlocking the doors. Getting into the Batmobile, Robin getting into the passenger seat and Red Arrow and Kid Flash getting into the back, Red Hood rises from the underground vehicle storage on his red and black Motorbike, and starting our respective vehicles we speed towards the exit to the Batcave and head towards Arkham City.

Under Wonder Tower, Arkham City.
July 4, 8:45pm EST.
(3rd Person POV)
The emergency power to Arkham City had finally kicked in, giving light to important sectors of the facility, the security network came back online and the lights leading to a vaulted room made of metal, visible from all sides came back to life,  Wayne Enterprises developed Wayne Tech Security lasers surrounding all sides of the vault with armed Arkham City guards and some criminals guarding the perimeter of the room. The room the vault was located in was the ruins of an old Gotham metro terminal with two long abandoned subway trains still in the platforms, vines and other plant life has grown over the ruins and brick work has crumbled away, large cables ran down and across the walls of the terminal, carrying power from above ground and Wonder Tower to this room, all other sections of the metro network under Arkham City had been cut off leaving this terminal room the last part standing making and mostly still in one piece.

A man in what looked like hooded robes walks into the platform hall of the station and heads towards the Vault room, stepping up to one of the guards eyeing him carefully,
"everything is in place?" the man questions
"yes sir, we are waiting for their arrival" the guard answers
"then everything is going to plan" the man says
"sir, what of the Bat?" the guard asks
"what of him?" the man questions
"what if he finds out about the trade off?" the guard asks
"that won't be an issue, there is currently chaos throughout Gotham City and it is spreading fast to Uptown and Downtown Gotham, Batman won't be an issue" the man explains
"The major rogues of Gotham haven't left the facility sir" the guard states
"that won't be an issue either, our client might want them back" the man states before turning his back and walking towards the exit of the platform hall,
"they will be here closer to midnight, the deal has already been done, so when they arrive let them take what's inside the vault, I must speak to Hugo Strange" the man says leaving the hall as his men nod, standing at attention.

Midtown Gotham.
The Batmobile sped down the streets of Gotham, turning up a main road to which Arkham City came into view in the distance, smoke and flames could be seen from any angle you looked from. The Batmobile turned onto the bridge leading to the walled off part of North Gotham, a section of Uptown Gotham that held places like, Ace Chemicals, Gotham Cathedral, a section of the Port of Gotham, one of the GCPD buildings, Gotham's First National bank and the Solomon Wayne Court House among many other known places of Gotham.

The Batmobile pulled up outside the bridge leading to Arkham City, the Flash and Green Arrow standing off to the side and Red Hoods motorbike pulling up along side. Disembarking their respective vehicles, Batman, Robin, Red Hood, Red Arrow and Kid Flash made their way over to Flash and Green Arrow,
"this city is turning into a war zone" Flash remarks
"the GCPD can handle the less dangerous criminals, we need to make sure that the more dangerous ones are still inside and make sure they don't leave" Batman explains
"there's more to that isn't there" Red Hood questions
"this isn't just a coincidence, something bigger is going on, and we need to find out what that is" Batman explains further
"so what's the plan?" Green Arrow asks
"take our respective partners and secure Arkham City before things get further out of hand, then meet back outside the tower in the middle of the facility" Batman explains
"to think, this was somewhat a nice - ish part of Gotham" Red Hood says
"nice - ish?" Red Arrow questions
"well apart from it being somewhat crime ridden" Robin answers
"wait don't tell me crime alley is in here somewhere?" Kid Flash asks
"I have no doubts about that" Batman answers
"lets go before the whole city burns itself alive" Robin says and they all nod in agreement, making their way across the bridge that leads to the entry gates of Arkham City.
