We walked slowly. Erica didn't seem to know where to start.
Eventually, she spoke, "I saw you two."
"What?" I inquired, taken aback.
"Last night, I saw you and Aeron..." she trailed off.

She'd seen us after dinner, all over each other in the corridor. I felt my stomach drop.
"Erica, I-" I started but she held up a hand to stop me.
"Relax, Maddison, I'm not mad. Let me finish." I chuckled. "I was angry at first but somehow a little part of me knew that was the first time you two had kissed. Meaning everything I thought before really was just me overreacting."
"Yeah, before. You have every right to be upset with me!" I pointed out, baffled at her calm demeanor.
She laughed a little. "I know but I'm not. You two really like each other now, and I'm not one to stand in the way of that."
She was right. Perhaps I wouldn't have admitted my feelings for Aeron before but I really did like him. I hugged Erica gingerly and she grunted in surprise.
"Thank you," I said, giving her a squeeze.

"Yeah, yeah." She waved it off and pulled away. "Anyway, I also know what you guys are up to."
"How do you know all these things?" I exclaimed incredulously.
It struck me that Erica was way more observant than she let on.
"For one, the title of that book you were holding last night really gave it away and I may have picked up snippets of your conversation with Grace in the library last night," she explained.
So that's where Erica ran off to the night before when she wasn't in the dorm. The library had been her refuge, and she'd only ended up running into us once again.
"Aeron and I really need to be more subtle about our endeavours." I laughed.
Erica laughed too. "You certainly do."

We got to the dining hall, still laughing, and Aeron, Grace and Zachariah all looked at us with shocked expressions plastered on their faces. Erica and I had to quiet down as we made our way to get ourselves food.
"Oh, by the way, I'm sorry about that whole hammock deal," Erica whispered.
I chuckled. "It's all right, I understand why you did it. I should be the one apologising anyway."
"Hey, maybe I'll join in next time," she said, nudging me.
I widened my eyes. "Please don't."
We laughed and sat down to eat. Aeron grinned at me knowingly, glad that Erica and I seemed to have our friendship back on track. Well, I knew that I was just beyond glad. And Erica and I couldn't stop smiling at each other with sly looks in our eyes. I honestly hadn't realized how much I'd missed this Emo Girl.

We could finally eat lunch with an air completely free of tension.
