The other teens that had been chosen with me settled in almost immediately. One of them was a sixteen-year-old girl with black hair hanging in front of her eyes. She wore black clothing and she was playing around with her beloved pocket knife as she unpacked her set of clothes. Her demeanour was quite the opposite of inviting. Another was a guy. He was very handsome. His hair was brown and he had a body that was lean and built. He was my age, a killer advantage. But of course, I had no time to focus on such things. Other than those two, there was a blonde thirteen-year-old girl dressed quite conservatively. She was sporting a cute pair of reading glasses as she lay on her bed, reading. This one was smart, no doubt. Good in school. And lastly, there was a fourteen-year-old boy sitting awkwardly on the side of his bed. He had brooding eyes, blue like the rest of our eyes. He was very shy and had shaggy, black hair. He was cute, like a small child. Innocent. Pure. All of us appeared to have different personalities. But differences are either accepted or judged.

After I finished settling, everyone else had already finished. We sat attentively on our beds, looking around nervously.
Mr Handsome was the first to speak. "How about we all get to know each other?"
I cleared my throat and said, "I'm Maddison."
"I'm Grace," Bookworm piped up.
Mr Handsome gave us both a smile. "Nice to meet you. I'm Aeron."
"You're a real charmer, aren't you, Aeron?" Emo Girl said. "You've got Maddie over there drooling already."
Aeron smirked but I quickly changed the topic, "What's your name?"
I heard a little chuckle from Shy Guy as Emo Girl scowled at me.
"I'm Erica," she said, her teeth clenched.
Grace giggled. "What about you? What's your name?"
Shy Guy took a while to realize that it was him Grace was talking to.
He shifted uncomfortably and answered, "It's Zachariah."
"Cool name, dude." Aeron shot him a wink.
"Thanks," he muttered.

"What's the use of all this?" Erica blurted.
Aeron looked taken aback. "What do you mean?"
"Do you want to make friends with everyone so you can get some insight on their ideas for Renewal laws? Are you really having that much trouble coming up with your own?" Erica said, glaring at Aeron.
Honestly, I hadn't even thought of any ideas for a Renewal law. But suddenly, I didn't like the atmosphere.
Aeron frowned. "You can't always expect the worst from people, Erica."

Erica stood up but Grace managed to stop her from launching herself at Aeron. I sat with my eyes wide, beholding the scene before me.
"Why don't we all calm down?" Grace said, gently pushing Erica to sit back down.
So Bookworm was a peacemaker too.
Erica pushed Grace aside suddenly and threw herself at Aeron.
"When you live a life as screwed up as mine, you learn that the worst is all you can expect from people," she said, pressing up against him forcefully.

At this, I got annoyed. I didn't know what her problem was. I stood to try and help Aeron but Erica had released her hold on him by herself. Erica glanced at Zachariah, Grace and I in turn. Then she gave a grunt and stalked into the bathroom.
