29 Prayer

As much as I wanted to skip our next library session, I knew better than to go breaking more rules. Of course, I had no interest in going through those laws, but hey, at least I showed up. So, I got back to reading THE HISTORY OF ANGELS. I'd already finished the first chapter so I moved on to the next, which talked about angelic communications and dialects.

Angels apparently knew every language in existence but had their own native tongue. It had no particular name- I guessed I'd just call it Angel-speak or something. Angels with roles involving singing would obviously communicate in song, although they could choose when to speak. It was also possible to send prayers to archangels. As soon as I read that, I had a pretty crazy idea. What if we could pray to an archangel and ask him what an angel could be doing in the Above? I was sure that an archangel would know something. I mean, we had a good guess that this angel was here to stop angels being enslaved but perhaps there was something we were still missing. There was bound to be something we hadn't figured out just yet. And although, if we actually prayed to an archangel, I knew it was possible that we'd never get an answer, it was a risk I was willing to take.

I checked the time. We had half an hour before dinner. Half an hour for me to tell Aeron and Grace all about this crazy idea of mine.

"How're we supposed to do this within the next five minutes?" Grace asked once we were out of earshot from Erica and Zachariah.
"It's easy enough to do in one minute, Grace," I responded, rolling my eyes. "I saw how this was done back on Earth."
"As insane as this is, I hope it works," Aeron commented.
I sighed. "You two are nothing but pessimists."
"And you've got a powerful imagination, babe," Aeron countered.
Grace scoffed. "I'm going to pretend he didn't just call you babe."
"Same," I said, though I felt myself blushing intensely.
I heard Aeron chuckle sexily.
Focus, Maddison. I scolded myself.

Silence fell and I bowed my head, closed my eyes and put my hands together, palm to palm, just the way I'd seen it being done on Earth. I went on to pray in my head, thinking of an archangel. I asked him the questions we wanted the answers to so badly. And I relaxed and opened my eyes once I'd thought the word Amen.

Now that my eyes were open, I saw the terrified and awestruck looks on both Aeron's face and Grace's. Both of them were standing at a distance from me. I was wondering what they were so scared of. And when I realised it was me, I felt my heart racing with fear. A fear of myself.
"What is it?" I asked with a voice that was unlike my own.
Grace couldn't speak and Aeron was shaking his head in amazement.
"Maddison, you're glowing," Aeron uttered.

!!Author's Note!!

Okay, this turn of events just randomly came to mind and you cannot imagine the grin I had on my face as I wrote this.

I only brought this chapter to an end such as this one because I need to stop myself from updating for a little while and enjoy my holiday. The Above has consumed the past two days of my holiday. It has to stop! Haha, but I'm sure you guys have enough to think about for now...

I'm so hyped!!
