Klaus's POV
Chapter 18: I'm Not Ready
I sit high up in a tree on the forest, silently watching a scene before me. Damon teaches Lacey how to feed without killing. She does well, which isn't that surprising. She isn't exactly the serial killer type. Lacey is so opposed to taking anyone's life away, or even harming them badly, that it overrides her urge to feed.
She is absolutely intriguing.I know I caused this. I should probably leave town right now. I should forget Lacey and leave Mystic Falls behind forever. I don't have to think twice about it. I just can't seem to bring myself to do that again. Especially after the pain it caused.
I hop down from my hiding place. "You, sweetheart, have incredible self control." I comment. She wipes the blood from her mouth, her eyes return to their original chocolate color, the veins disappear from her cheeks, and regain their usual rosiness.
She's no longer the monster I turned her into. She's just Lacey."Thanks." She mumbles.
"You shouldn't be here." Damon growls, protectively placing his hand on her arm and blocking her from my view. "Easy, mate. I just came to talk." Lacey nods to Damon. "It's fine, Damon. I'll be fine. Klaus has already done all the damage he can do." She says, giving me a cold look. I was right. She is never going to forgive me for this. "Just leave us alone for a few minutes."
Damon nods, trusting her judgement, and runs off."What do you want?" She growls.
"Will you ever forgive me?"
"I don't know." She whispered. "I'm sorry. It's just that..." She trails off. "I've caught myself wishing I could forget all the horrible things you've done."
"But you can't, can you?""It's hard, Klaus. I thought you were a good person at first. Everything used to be easy. But you lied to me, you broke me. I want to forgive you, but I don't want to hurt anymore. I need space. Lots of space from everyone." I nod. "I know." I touch her face, stroking her cheek. "I don't want you to keep your distance, but you being here makes it harder to accept things. I don't want to be dead. I'm not ready to be dead."
"No. You don't want to become me. You're repulsed by me.You can't stand the thought of killing for sheer pleasure, like I do. You can't stand the thought of even being associated with me, can you?"
"Maybe one day, you'll show up at my door, and let me show you what the world has to offer. Don't forget that my offer will always stand." One last peck on her cheek, and I'm gone.
Lacey's POV
I touch my cheek, I can still feel where his lips lightly touched my skin. The butterflies still flurry in my stomach. His mark is still imprinted on me. "I'm sorry." I whisper. He can't hear me, but something about the phrase gives me closure. I walk home, thinking to myself.I want to love him, I really do. But after everything he did? I know he doesn't always mean to, he says he only did it because he can't stand the thought of living without me, but that doesn't make me feel that much better.
I walk inside the front doorstep, and sit in an armchair, pouring bourbon into a glass from Damon's stash. I'm about to take a sip, but Damon walks in, snatching the glass from my hand. "Like hell, little sister."I scowl. "I'm not your sister. I mumbled.
I knew he heard me, by the accusing look look in his eyes. "Damon, I'm sorry. That was really rude, I don't know what's wrong with me."
"Your emotions are heightened. You're hurt right now. You don't mean to, but you're taking it out on other people." I sigh. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.""Mmm. What's wrong? You seem off. No pep in your step."
"It's nothing. Really, Damon. I swear I'm fine.""I don't know what I would do if you weren't here for me. You know?"
Damon smirked. "Thanks."
"If that bastard hurts you ever again, I don't care how much you love him, I'm gonna kick his ass."
I smile. "Okay." Damon kissed my forehead. "Goodnight, Lacey."
Song is Holding on and letting go!!! Sorry this is short!
