Lacey's POV

Chapter 2: Stranger Encounter

I must've fallen asleep again, because the next thing my eyes open to is not a hospital, but a bedroom. The light shines brightly through the window. I manage sit up, but not without a grimace plastered on my face. Broken ribs are no picnic. I sigh. I suppose might as well get up now that I'm awake. I'll never be able to fall back asleep anyway. I swing my feet around and attempt to stand up. A stab of agony filled my body. I let out a yelp of pain and my knees buckle.

My butt lands first, which doesn't feel too good. I yell a few choice words, apparently too loud because the door opens, revealing a arrogant Damon staring down at me. "Can't you stay in bed for five minutes?" He asked. I scowl. "Haha, so funny." I mutter sarcastically. "Either help me up, or just drop dead, okay?"

"Bit late for that." He mumbles. "What?" I couldn't have heard him right.

"Nothing."

Instead of pissing me off even more, he holds his hands out for me to grab, supporting me so I can get to the bed. Stefan peeks his head through the doorframe. "What happened? Are you hurt?" He asks. I shake my head. "I'm fine. Do you guys have like super-human hearing or something? I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself." Stefan and Damon look at each other. "Am I missing something here?"

"We should tell her." Stefan says. "What? Why now?" Damon argues. "We need to get it over with. We'll never get around to it and then she'll find out the wrong way. It's not like we can sugarcoat it, Damon."

"What? Tell me what? Come on, I'm right here!"

Damon sighes. "Lacey," he began. "We're vampires."

"Yeah, and I'm Happy the freaking clown. What is it you're not telling me?"

Their faces remain emotionless. "You can't be serious."

The say nothing. "You're nuts. Vampires don't exsist, okay? This isn't Breaking Dawn."

Damon scowls. "I told you this was a bad idea."

Stefan just sighs. "Just listen. I'll explain everything."

"Woah."

"Yep. Immortalitly has its perks."

Before I can ask anymore questions, a voice interrupts. "Stefan?" It calls. "Where are you?" A girl with straight dark brown hair and dark brown eyes walks through the door. "Oh. Hey. Who's that?"

"I'm Lacey." I say. "They like rescued me or whatever."

The girl raises her eyes at Stefan, giving him a questioning glance. He just responds with a simple, "I'll tell you later."

"So, like, is there any food in this house, or..." Stefan nods, directing me to the kitchen. I'm living with vampires. I never thought I'd say that. And yet, I don't know whether I should be terrified or excited.

After feeling full from breakfast, I can't help but stare longingly at the front door. It's not like there's much to do here. The best I've gotten since my 'Hi, I'm a Vampire' conversation is awkward silences and glares from the enemy. The enemy being Damon.

"Can I go outside? Just like, for a walk?"

"What? No."

"Why not? What's out there? Please?"

"Lacey, there are things out there. Things you don't know about... It's too dangerous."

"Like what?! You just explained vampires. What else is there? It's not like I'm going to meet Jacob Black on a random street corner. Right?"
